HOME player Peter Ngang’a resisted a stiff challenge at the weekend to win the CIC Insurance Golf Day at the Limuru Golf and Country Club.

Nganga playing off handicap 24 needed a second nine score of 25 stableford points to beat handicap 27 Robert Gitau on count back and rule the roost in the day long tournament that attracted a large field of 120 players.

He amassed a total score 44 stableford points (19, 25), while Gitau who settled for the men winner prize posted 44 points (24, 20).

I have been having my winner’s speech in my pocket for the last four years and I am happy I finally have a chance to read it. I didn’t know I could win today, but i think what motivated my most was the bet I had made, so I couldn’t imagine losing my money and yet i am in need of money for my child’s school fees,” said Ngang’a after the prize giving.

Handicap 11 B. Boxer was the men runner-up on 39 points, after beating K. Kimani on count back.

Noni Muhire playing off handicap 13 emerged as the lady winner on 37 points and she was closely followed in the runner-up position by H. Njenga on 36 points.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, CIC General Insurance Managing Director Kenneth Kimani lauded the turnout at the event and noted that the golfers support had enabled CIC to grow and reach second position in the insurance industry at the moment.

This tournament has given us a good platform to meet and interact with most of you who are our clients and as such, key supporters of our business. At CIC Insurance Group, we are keen to maintain our growth momentum by tapping into the specialty market segments and expanding into other regional markets,” said Kimani.

He added: “ We are already expanding into East and Central Africa region with operations in South Sudan underway. We are also in the process of establishing operations in Malawi and Uganda.”

Brian Njoroge playing off handicap 20 won the junior prize on 31 points (11, 20), while Robert Murigi playing off handicap 24 won the staff prize on 26 points and handicap 12 B. Rono was the guest winner on 36 points.
