SEVEN-YEAR-OLD WANGARI WINS AFRICA JUNIOR GOLF CHALLENGE

Seven-year-old Chanelle Wangari is the new Africa Junior Golf Championships(AJC).

Wangari clinched the victory with a total of 137 nett to lift this year’s continental girls under 10 title at Zebula County Club and Elements County Club golf courses in South Africa.

“I feel very happy and proud. I had been practicing a lot and I knew I was going to bring the trophy home,” says an elated Wangari, a class two pupil at Makini Junior School.

On the first day of the five day tournament, Wangari scored 52 nett and on the second day she took the lead with 43 nett before recording a further 42 nett on the final day for a total of 137 to carry the day.

She becomes the youngest non-handicap African champion to ever achieve that fete before 10.

The victory automatically qualifies her for the 2015 World Junior Golf Championship to be held in Pinehurst, USA in July and the European Junior Golf Tour in April 2015 in Scotland. nike air max cheap uk mens nike air max cheap uk mens

BHAVIK SHAH WINS MUTHONI MUTHIGA GOLF TOURNEY

Vet Lab resident Bhavik Shah won the Muthoni Muthiga 2014 Subsidiary on 39 stableford points to claim his maiden title playing handicap 26.

He stroke a par on the first hole, a double bogey in the second hole, a bogey in the fourth hole and an eagle in the eighth hole to finish the front nine strongly on 22 points at the par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club in Nairobi at the weekend.

In the back nine, a skilled downswing earned him a par in the 11th hole, a double eagle in the 12th hole and a double bogey in the 16th hole to finish with 17 points.

He beat his closest rivals F. Kahuruku on 37 points playing handicap 12, Sham Werunga Tubei on 37 points on handicap 18 and Rohit Shah on 34 points playing handicap 21.

Awarding the top prize, Resolution Insurance Sales Manager Robert Onyango said the general insurer would continue to sponsor golf events in a bid to promote the development of the sport and nurture young talent in the country.

In the ladies tournament, 16-year old student from Makin School, Naomi Nafula scored 75 points gross to be declared the winner of the Muthoni Muthiga Trophy.

The student from Rose Nakiaka Golf Academy beat Mary Karano and Bee Jones who scored 81 points and 102 points to get silver and bronze medals respectively.

Playing handicap 2, she had a par in the first, third, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth holes; a birdie in the fifth hole to finish the first nine on 35 points.

In the second nine, she scored Bogey in the 11th hole and the 16th holes had a par in the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th hole to finish the back nine on 40 points.
