WANGECI, JESSA AND KIGEN TO REPRESENT KENYA AT KIDS WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MALAYSIA

Sports Personality of the Year -SOYA) -most Promising nominee, Chanelle Wangeci will lead a team of three kid golfers to next month’s Kids World Golf Championship slated to take place from December 8 – 12 at the Palm Resort Golf & Country Club in Malaysia.

The other participants making the team, include Aahil-Aziz Jessa and Tirok Kigen. They will take place in the four day tournament expected to take place in three venues including Jalan Persiaran Golf- Malaysia and IOI Palm Villa Golf & Country Resort.

Just at seven, Wangeci of Makini School made history last September as the first non-handicapped Kenyan Junior Golfer to win in an international event in the Africa Junior Challenge held in South Africa.

The eight year old has won many tournaments, since she only began playing two years ago at the age of five. Among her many accolades include first place in the  Africa Junior Championship – South Africa at Zebula Country Club,

Wangeci is slated to compete in junior professional tournaments in Asia, Europe and the United States of America, U.S World Junior Golf Championship in Pinehurst, USA, (July 2015), European Junior World Championship in Scotland, (May 2015) and the Malaysian tour is expected to provide a perfect training opportunity for the budding golfer to hone her skills.

The tournament presents another window of opportunity for our juniors to excel and use the opportunity presented by the tournament as a springboard for elite sport and future tournaments. Initiatives of this nature are an attempt to move the sport of golf from abstract to concrete-”Junior Golf Foundation chairman Mr. Ashwin Gidoomal said while naming the team.

The games will be played at the 27 holes stroke play for Boys eight  years & under), 54 holes stroke play (Boys 9-18), 27 holes stroke play (Girls 9 & under) and 54 holes stroke play for Girls 10-18.

This is the first time the games are being held in Asia after US and Europe. The World Championship is a special opportunity for boys and girls between age 5 years to 18 years old to play in a world competition.

Among other Asian nation to take part in the championship including Japan, Thailand and Australia towards organising his competition as host to the Kids Golf World Championship.
