Playing off handicap 23, home golfer Evans Manono played an impressive 39 stableford points to win the fourth round of Safaricom Business Challenge Golf tournament held at Nyanza Golf club.

Manono posted 16 points on the front nine before following that with a fine 23 points in the back nine in a day that saw a field of 80 armatuer golfers take the soggy Nyanza course.

“I have only played golf for the last seven months and I feel it’s a game that can take me places, I feel good after winning this tournament today and hope to follow the other remaining tour series,” Manono said.

In second place was George Adongo playing off handicap 15 with 37 stableford points. He shot 15 points in the front nine and a superb 22 in the back nine.

Adongo also took the men’s title with 37 stableford points.

“This is good for me since I have not been playing for some time but today’s Safaricom tournament has given me the gusto to frequently participate in golf tournaments,” said the winner.

Nyanza’s David Odhiambo today shot two under par 69 to end the day tied second with Uganda’s Denis Anguyo in the leader on a total of two under par 140 after two rounds of thrilling action at the on going 72^nd Uganda Open at the par 71 Kintate Golf Club in Entebbe.

Odhiambo who played level par 71 in the first round yesterday improved on his score and is now trailing overnight leader Deo Akope by a single shot. Akope today also played two under par 69 for a total of three under par 139 after managing one under in the first round on Wednesday.

First day leader board winner, Dismas Indiza of Mumias Golf Club who set an early pace with a brilliant four under par 67 score after the first 18 holes, fumbled today as he could only manage four over par 75 and is now placed fourth on the leader board with a score of level par 142.

“My target on day two was to play a stroke less on each hole. I am happy to be leading the standings”, Akope told Kawowo Sports.

Ndiza himself sunk 4 over par 75 gross and fell to 4^th on the leader board, where the top 24 professionals have made the cut.

Kenyan golfer, John Wangai returned the best score of the day, 67 (5 under par).

Some of the renowned names to miss the cut include, Uganda’s national team head coach, Amos Kamya, his Kenyan counterpart, Anil Shah, South Africa’s Allan Michelle, Entebbe’s duo of the club pro, Dickson Lagoro and the course green keeper, George Olayo, Ian Odokonyero, Herman Mutawe, among others.

The professional defending champion, Vincent Byamukama is joint 14^th alongside Kenyan left hander, Richard Ainley.

24 professionals have made the cut for the main stake $ 40,000 (U.shs 100M) courtesy of the prime sponsors, East African Breweries Limited, under the Tusker Malt brand.
