Thika’s Simon Ngige continued to display brilliance on the third round of the KCB Corporate Banking Golf , when he rolled four birdies to stay at the top of the leaderboard with four under par 215  at Nakuru Golf Club.

The former Njoro Golf Club player, used his knowledge about the course to return home one under par 72 totriumph with an overall two shot lead.  Ngige said he was well acquainted with the tough course and this played to his advantage since he knew where to hit the balls. “ Am looking forward to winning this round of the tour since I missed to win in the KCB Kigali Rwanda Open.

Ngige dropped two shots onhole three and sixth but pared the rest with an exception of a birdie on hole nine to round up 1 over par 37 on the first nine. At the back nine, he only dropped one shot but sunk three birdies for two under par 35. Nakuru’s left hander Richard Ainley showed intent of winning the sixth round of the KCB Regional tournament after he earned two under par 71 for a collective total of three under par 217.

Ainley droppedthree shots but sunk five easy birdies to yield two under par 71. Youngster Greg Snow who won the recent fifth round of the KCB East African Golf Tour in Rwanda came in third after he hit one over par 74 for a cumulative total of two under par 218.

Tournaments favourite Dismas Indiza dropped five shots but hitan eagle on the ninth hole for level par 220 to jointly tie at fourth positionwith Ali Kimani and South African based Anil Shah. Sulivan Muthugia came atposition seven while Hesbon Kutwa and Nicholas Rokoine jointly tied at position eight.

The tournament enters its final round on Saturday with the remaining playersfighting for the Shs 500,000 prize fund where the winner will take home Sh110,000.

Simon Ngige bounced to the top of the leader board on day two after he produced a dazzling round of four under par 69 in the KCB Corporate Banking at the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club.

Ngigi who recently struggled to top in the KCB Rwanda made six birdies, three from each nine and dropped a shot on each half to climb to the top of the leaderboard with a two rounds total of three under par 143.

He will now lead the surviving 16 players who made the five over par second round cut to today’s third round of the Sh500,000 where the winner will take home Sh110,000.

Those who survived the cut include Muthaiga’s Greg Snow who fired his second 72 for 144. A winner of the fifth leg in the KCB sponsored East African Golf Tour in Kigali Rwanda, Snow who will be leaving soon for Europe to play in a number of events in the European Challenge Tour, birdied one and bogeyed also one hole at the front nine while at the back nine where the
pros usual pick up most of their birdies, Snow birdied both the par five 16th and 18th but dropped shots at the 14th and 17th to tie in second place with his club-mate Nicholas Rokine who also shot his second straight 72 a round which included three birdies and two bogeys.

Another local pro Richard Ainley shot a law three under 33 which included three birdies at the front nine but three back to back bogeys from the 15th with only a birdie at the 11th hole denied him a possible lower score in the round.

He was however a shot better than tournament favourite Dismas Indiza who shot one over 74 for 147 same as round one leader Hesbon Kutwa who carded three over par 76 to also wind up on 147 though still with a chance of striking back to the top depending on how he plays today.

Sullivan Muthugia also formerly a Njoro player now based in Thika shot 76 for 148 to lead a group of five others who included David Odhiambo, David Wakhu, Ken Abuto, home pro James Lorum, and Ali Kimani.
