Over 160 golfers will roll up their sleeves at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa on Saturday for the 2012 Toyota Kenya golf tournament.

The 18 holes stable ford tournament that brings together golfers from all the Coast golf clubs of Nyali, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and guests of the sponsors with valid handicaps has been sponsored by Toyota Kenya Limited.

According to the draw released, the event tees off at 8.00 am at both the first and tenth tees and the afternoon tee off will be starting at 12.13 Pm from the first  tee and those teeing off from the 10th tee will start at 12.22 p.m.

The overall title will be up for grabs since last year’s winner Peter Barnard’s name is not in the draw. It was not however  under stood whether  he will make a post entry which has been allowed only  in morning draw.

The little known Barnard had stunned veteran golfers last year by scoring a sterling 40 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner.

But the Mombasa golf club’s former Chairman Eric Nyongesa who was the runners up on a score of 39 points has assured to take up the mantle.

Lady golfers might still find it hard since the Veteran lady golfer and the club’s former lady captain Florence Karimi, who was the lady Winner on a score of 35 points, has vowed to defend the title.

The Jaffery Academy School boy Suheil Hamada who scored 38 points to claim the junior prize has also sharpened his tools and will not take the event lightly especially with the presence his upcoming colleagues like national Junior Daniel Nduva, Nicholas Soars, Agil Is Hag, Mathews Wahome and Adel Balala.

Club captain D.C.Mulli said the course is in excellent condition but warned that the current heavy winds blowing from the Indian Ocean might affect their swings. air max 95 air max 95

“It is going to be a tough tournament putting in mind that top golfers will be drawn from across the country. It is a great initiative from the ICEA LION Group and I would love to urge them to spread their wings as we seek to make golf a national sport” Rana said.
ICEA LION Group plans to spread the tournament throughout the year and will sponsor golf tournaments in major towns in Kenya.
Their major focus is to build relationships with all stakeholders in these regions of the country to create more awareness about their non-life and life products to enhance their uptake.
“We plan to spread our golf series to all parts of the country as this will enable us reach as many clients as possible and at the same time help the game of golf grow through our CSR” Steven Oluoch, CEO of ICEA LION General Insurance, said.

Nyanza Club new Chairman Mr Daniel Ajulu thanked ICEA Lion Group for choosing the Club as their first stop and asked thme to continue working with them saying Nyanza was a friendly club.
“We are proud that ICEA LION group choose Kisumu and Nyanza Golf Club as their first host in their on-going series tournament, we as the club are happy to host them and extend our heartfelt joy in choosing us ” Ajulu said.
Hilly Osodo the new Captain said that Nyanza was happy of the gesture and asked other coporate companies to also sponsor golf tournaments through their CSR programmes.
“We are happy of the gesture extended to us by the ICEA LION Group and our only plea is for other coporate companies to join them in sponsoring the games of golf and especially at the Nyanza Club” Osodo said. nike air max hombre nike air max hombre
