STAKES ARE HIGH AS THE FOURTH LEG OF KCB PRO AM TEES OFF AT ROYAL CLUB

Stakes will be raised when the fourth round for the KCB East African Golf Tour tees off at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club this Wednesday with Dismas Indiza, the winner of the last leg in Nyanza expected to receive a run for his money from other determined players.

According to the Chairman of Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), Rizwan Charania, this leg has registered over 30 professionals attesting to growth and popularity of the game.

“The number of Pros has increased effectively giving big numbers to the various tournaments that are staged across the country,” Charania said.

The growth is attributed to the increase in individual tournament prize money in this year’s series.

KCB is the sole sponsor of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour tournament that has enabled the development of young talents in view of the popularity currently taking place in the game.

The winner will take home cash prize of Kshs 96,000 followed by Kshs 82,000 and Kshs 70,000, for first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

KCB will host Professionals to a three day tournament and the fourth day a PRO-AM where amateurs are grouped with Pros will play. According to PGK Chairman, who is also the Resident Pro at Windsor Golf Club, this has contributed to growth.

KCB Advantage Banking Golf tournament series has witnessed a variety of winners; during this year’s inaugural tournament held at Thika golf club Anil Shah of Royal Nairobi Golf club emerged the overall winner bagging a five under par 67 in the final day; in the second leg Rizwan Charania of Windsor Golf club emerged the overall winner with a 71, 65 and 69 to close with an overall 8 under par.

In the last KCB East Africa Golf tournament held at Nyanza Golf Club Dismus Indiza of Mumias Golf Club managed to keep his home tuff pride by emerging the overall winner.

A tough tournament is expected as the grass meets the iron in this encounter that marks a significant turn towards the KCB East African Golf tour grand finale.

“KCB continues to be at the core of developing talents and in this case golf talents. East African Golf Tour is very significant in developing and nurturing golfers in the region following competitive tournaments all year round,” said the KCB Chief Business Officer Kenya, Peter Kimondo.

He said the bank has committed a total of KShs 9 million, of which KShs 6.4 million continues to be spent on cash rewards for the professionals while the golf administration and other prizes for the amateurs amount to KShs 2.6 million. air max mujer air max mujer

DIYONO CROWNED NIC BANK GOLF SERIES LIMURU LEG WINNER

Suryo Diyono fired an impressive 40 stable-ford points to emerge the overall Men Winner at the NIC Bank Golf Series second leg held at the par 71 Limuru Country Club at the weekend.

The tournament attracted a large field of over 200 amateur golfers who converged at the 18-hole course to battle it out for top place.

Suryo playing off handicap 15 posted identical 20 points on each nine respectively for a total of 40 stable ford points to claim victory. He bogeyed on the first four holes, before making some par saves on holes five, seven, eight and nine.

He, however, dropped a shot on par-four 6th on the front nine.

Three more pars followed on holes 10th, 16th and 18th on the back nine, now high on the sound of victory, stumbled on the tough par-four 13th, managing only a double bogey and again on 12th, 14th, 15th and 17th securing bogeys.

A birdie on hole Eleven was all he needed for a well deserved victory.

Coming in second was Yassin Awale who managed 39 points total after managing 19 on the front nine and 20 points on the second nine.

Third place went to Njehia Mwangi, a handicap 14 player who posted 38 points.

Lady golfer Rose Gitau was the lady winner. Rose, a handicap-12 golfer scored 21 points on the opening nine and 20 on the back nine for a total of 41points while the Lady runner up was claimed by handicap-15, Noni Muhire who played 20 on both nines for 40 points.

Steve Wairia from the Sigona Golf Club finished with an excellent 38 points claiming the Guest Winners prize; David Kiambi from NIC Bank Playing off Handicap-14 was the staff Winner with 33 points.

Congratulating the winners, NIC Bank business Banking Director, James Wainaina said he was encouraged by both the condition of the golf course and the level of performance. He said that NIC was committed to supporting sports across East Africa.

NIC Bank now operates across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and consequently we have designed this golf series to mirror our current market,” Wainaina said.

The host clubs in Kenya will include the Nyanza Club in Kisumu City, which will also play host to golfers from Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii and Mumias, the 

Nakuru Golf Club who will host golfers from Nanyuki and Njoro, the Thika Sports Club, who will host golfers from Ruiru, Makuyu, Nyeri and Nanyuki, the Mombasa Golf Club which will host members of the Coastal golf clubs, Eldoret Golf Club which will play host to Nandi Bears and Kitale Club, the challenging Sigona Golf Club, Kiambu Golf Club and the Kenya Railway Golf Club.
