Top Mombasa lady golfers, Kelen Weku, handicap-22 and Wanjiru Ikua, handicap-27, emerged tops at the NIC Bank sponsored golf day at the Mombasa Golf Club when they both posted a sizzling 42 points.

Battling through the strong South-East Trade Winds, the Kusi-winds, the ladies opened their rounds with a bang with Weku posting 22-points whilst Ikua went all out to post a massive 24 points.

On the back nine Weku maintained her composure and with the winds picking up dramatically in the later part of the day, her conservative play bore fruit and the resulting 20 points was enough to earn her the Championship over Ikua who could only manage 18 points.

Speaking at the evening celebrations, Weku thanked thesponsors for putting together a great event. “This is our first major event at Mombasa Golf Club this year and I would like to thank NIC Bank for choosing our club to host this prestigious event,” Weku said. “That I played well on such a big occasion and with over 100-golfers from all the Coast golf clubs in attendance is a huge bonus for me.”

Speaking at the same ceremony, NIC’s Allan Dodd, congratulated the winners. “On behalf of the NIC Bank, I would like to thank golfers from all around the Coast region for joining us here at the Mombasa Golf Club and participating in this event,” Dodd said. “For the winners, well done, it is a great sporting feat to play so well in the windy conditions at Mombasa, I salute you.”

The Men Winner was Johnson Wamunyua who returned a respectable 39 points whilst Shabbir Nazerali was the men runner up with 38points.

Steve Wairia was the guest winner with 37 points whilst the nines went to Mwangi Kamau and George Njuguna. Wambui Warui, another lady golfer finished with 36 points to claim the lady runner up prize. Former CBK Governor, Duncan Ndegwa was recognized as the best senior golfer. Playing off a handicap of 23, Ndegwa posted scores of 21 and 14 points for a total of 35 points. NIC’s Head of Card, Michael Kinuthia ran away with the Staff Prize after shooting 27 points.

The huge crop of junior golfers from the Nyali Golf and Country Club contined to demonstrate their potential; John Mburu, a handicap-6 junior golfer, was the best among the Juniors with 36 points. air max 95 air max 95

Windsor’s resident professional Riz Charania resisted stiff challenge to emerge the winner of the KCB Golf Tour leg in Nakuru on Saturday, to increase his Order of Merit points ahead of the grand finale set for the Nyali Golf and Country Club in August.

Charania who also doubles up as the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) chairman, recovered from a poor first round performance to win the three round competition on three under par 216 (73, 68, 75) at the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club.

Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine finished second on two under par 217 (74, 69, 74), while home player Richard Ainley was third on level par 218 (74, 72, 72).

The tournament, which was the second last in the tour saw a number of pros skip it as they preferred different international tournaments. They included Thika’s Simon Ngige and Vet Lab’s Brian Njoroge who played at the Nigeria Open at the same time and Royal’s Anil Shah who played at the Zambia Open. pandora pulseras abalorios pandora pulseras abalorios
