Home professional Riz Charania made full use of his home course advantage to clinch the Rapid Tour golf title at the par 72 Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club course today.
Charania who also doubles up as the chairman of the Professional Golfers of Kenya(PGK) chairman shot one under par 71 during today’s final round of the Sh300,000 tournament to beat Vet Lab’s Brian Njoroge and Mumias based Dismas Indiza by four shots.

I am very happy that after giving away the KCB Tour grand finale in Mombasa, my game is good at the moment’’ said Charania. He said the condition of the course had also contributed to his three under par total 213 though he made some few bad shots at the fifth and 11th.

My swing is good at the moment, and i am hitting the ball fairly well’’ said Charania who said the new tour was good for the local pros as it is taking them to right direction’’ said Charania who birdied the seventh, 12th, and 14th as Njoroge hit a double-bogey seven at the 15th after dropping more shots earlier in the first and second holes and one more at the 14th.

I was able to level the first nine after making birdies at the third and ninth, having started with two back to back bogeys at the first and second holes’’ said Njoroge who birdied the 11th and at the 18th for one over par 73 to tie for the second place with Indiza who double bogeyed the par three-fourth then birdied the 11th and 15th for level par 72 for a total of 217 same as Njoroge. “This week has not been very good for me as i hit several bad shots particularly off the tee as well as on the short holes, but i am working on it and hopefully i will be back to my usual form in the next tournament’’ said the long hitting Indiza.

Both players took home Sh37,000 while the winner Charania went home with Sh72,000. Finishing a shot further behind was Muthaiga’s Frank Matilo shot one under par 71 for 218. A total of 16 players made the second round cut out of the earlier field of 32 players. Tournament director Charan Thethy thanked the various sponsors who supported the event. This week’s tournament had attracted the sponsorship of Kuscco Limited, Heri Heights, Tribe Hotel, Star Times and Pepsi which enabled the Rapid Golf Tour (RGT) not only sponsor the pro event but also yesterday’s club-nite at Windsor which was still on at the time of writing.
