COCA-COLA ANNOUNCES KSH 14 MILLION SPONSORSHIP FOR 2015 BARCLAYS KENYA OPEN

Coca-Cola is this year’s official non-alcoholic beverage sponsor of the 2015 Barclays Kenya Open, with a cash sponsorship of Sh14 million, the beverage giant announced this at a press conference at the Karen Country Club.

Coca-Cola General Manager for East Africa, Peter Njonjo said with this year’s sponsorship the organization was keen on leveraging on its platinum sponsorship to hydrate both the players and the tournament attendees with the full Coca-Cola portfolio. He said the decision to include the total portfolio arose out of the need to give players and spectators options in choice to reflect the company’s’ diverse portfolio of beverage offerings.

As a total beverage business, we feel we can bring more to this premier Golfing Occasion to refresh and remind players and spectators of the happiness in our bottles, especially brand Coca-Cola to connect with our consumers both local and international,” said Njonjo when presenting the sponsorship cheque to the Kenya Open Golf Limited chairman Peter Kanyago.

By putting our entire portfolio behind this year’s Tournament, we underscore our continued commitment to supporting active healthy living through sporting activities and in this particular case through golf,” said Njonjo. Receiving the sponsorship cheque, the Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago lauded Coca-Cola for their continued support and strong presence in the Barclays Kenya Open. He added “given that this is the only European Tour Event in the region, we are proud that corporate sponsors like Coca-Cola come in strongly to support this very important event in Kenya’s sporting calendar. He reiterated KOGL’s commitment in putting together a world class tournament.

The Barclays Kenya Open is part of the European Golf Tour with a high level of visibility globally. Several local and international players will be gunning for the top prizes and a chance to play in the European PGA. This year’s tournament will be played from April 9th-12th April 2015 at the Karen Golf Club.

COCA-COLA SPONSORS TANNAHILL SHIELD TO A TUNE OF SH2.5 MILLION

Beverage manufacturer, Coca-Cola has today announced a Sh 2.5million sponsorship toward the 91st edition of the traditional Easter tournament –Tannahill Shield. This is the third year running that Coca-Cola Kenya is sponsoring the tournament. This years’ tournament is scheduled for 3rd to 5th April 2015.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement ceremony held at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Coca-Cola Kenya Country Manager Nick Mruttu lauded the tournament organizers for coordinating what is arguably Kenya’s longest running annual tournament. “To consistently attract and maintain first class standards that has made the Tannahill shield what it is for more than 91 years is not an easy task” said Mruttu. He added that the legacy of longevity blends well with the Coca-Cola brand that has been serving refreshing beverages for over 128 years. Last year, Royal Nairobi Golf Club recaptured the Tannahill Shield after a six-year wait. The hosts beat Limuru 6-2 and Karen Country Club with a similar margin for 12 points and a total of 49. Muthaiga Golf Club, which has dominated the tournament for years finished second with 39 points.

Hosting this tournament is a great honor to us as a club and in the tradition of the tournament we promise a memorable shield for both our players and guests,’’ said Mr. Mugambi Murwithania. “We aim to present the best challenge year in year out and this year is no different,” added Mr. Murwathania.

Coca-Cola, through its entire product range will provide refreshments for the players and spectators. ‘I am sure you are all aware of our ongoing Share a Coke campaign, and in the same spirit I welcome you to join us in this year’s shield and Share a coke with your friends and loved ones, added Mr. Mruttu.

The sponsorship comes two months after Coca-Cola launched its revolutionary Share a Coke consumer. The campaign gives Coca-Cola consumers the opportunity to swap the iconic Coca-Cola logo with personal names of their friends, relatives and family.
