The final qualifying events in the Dasani Golf Gala will be happening in Nyanza and Kisii on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Club Captain of the 9-hole par-70 Nyanza Golf Club, Tobias See says the rains are still persistent and golfers need to be ready for a bit of a challenge. “The heavy downpour has made the course wet but it is still manageable. The greens are lush and golfers will definitely enjoy the experience,” said See.

Tobias See will be leading the team of David Balaka, Joseph Atito and George Oricho. He is confident in his team and says they will be the flag bearers from Nyanza. “We have been preparing quite well, we are in good shape and we are settling for nothing short of a win!” said See. Tobias See says due to the huge number of golfers, the earliest tee off will be at 7am and the last team will finish slightly before 6pm.

Kisii Sports Club, the second oldest club in the country started in 1906, has quite a low number of golfers and according to Club Captain David Omato, this could be because Kisii region has very few corporations. “Currently we have only 25 golfers. This could be because of the location of the club which is away from major corporations, “says Omato.

“It is an honor for us to host the Dasani Golf day on Sunday and we welcome all golfers from the region to our course which has been given a new facelift after acquiring a new Greens mower and a Gang mower,” says Omato.

Omato says first team will tee off at 9am and the last team is expected to finish slightly before 3pm before the rains come down. The 9-hole par-70 Kisii Golf Club is in manageable condition and golfers need not worry as the drainage is good enough, says Omato.

About 100 golfers have been drawn for the Saturday golf challenge at Nyanza with players coming from host Nyanza, Kakamega, Mumias and Kericho. Guests of the Coca-Cola Company in Nyanza include Victor Kidiwa, Elijah Adul, Karume Weke, Vincent Wangombe and Ben Handa. About 50 golfers have been drawn for the Sunday event at Kisii Sports Club with players coming in from host Kisii, Kisumu and Kericho.

The winning teams will join the rest of the qualifying teams from the previous events to battle it out in the Dasani Golf Gala grand finale to be held at the Karen Country Club on August 27, 2011. The top four players will win an all-expense paid trip to the TOUR championships presented by Coca-Cola at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
