Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has introduced new rules for the 2013 Golfer Of The Year series which tee off with the Sigona Bowl at the Sigona Golf Club on January 18 and 19.

According to a statement from KGU, to qualify as a Golfer Of The Year, a player shall have played a minimum of 10 GOTY events during the year which shall include at least one 54 hole event outside the region where his handicap is maintained.

The statement noted that to qualify to play in the 2014 Kenya Open a player shall apart from playing at least one 54-hole event outside the region where his handicap is maintained, should also be the Kenyan winner of the 2013 Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship, the winner of the Kenya Amateur Open, the best amateur at the 2013 Kenya Open, subject to making the cut and the top amateur in the 2013 golfer of the year rating.

Selection to the national golf team will be based on a KGU procedure available at all clubs and GOTY points will count to the selection.

“You will notice that the Union has changed the points award system to be more inclusive. All club captains should inform all your players as well as publishing it on your website and notice boards,” said Francis Okwara, the Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman and Tournament Director.

He added: “KGU will award bonus points as follows; 0.5 points for participation and playing all the rounds at a Goty event, 1 bonus point for any round played under par gross, 3 bonus points for aggregate under par round for a 36-hole Goty event, 5 bonus points for aggregate under par for 54 holes Goty events and 7 bonus points for aggregate under par for a 72 holes Goty event.”

Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s chairman Zubin Parikh urged his club members to ensure that the prestigious Dasani Golf Trophy remains at the club next season when the Gala resumes next year.

Parikh was speaking on Thursday night when he received the trophy won by members of Royal Club during the Dasani Golf Grand Finale on September 29.

According to the new tournament rules introduced this year, the winning team of the Gala’s grand finale every year would see the coveted trophy stay in their home club until the next finale.

“We are proud that our members won the trophy and urge more members to ensure that we continue keeping the trophy at the club, by winning next year’s tournament as well,” said Parikh.

The Dasani Golf Gala grand finale winners, a team of four, also enjoyed a four day golf tour of Dubai in recognition for their achievement.

The team comprised of Peter Kang’ethe, Jane Njau, Gabriel Njiri and Ken Kaunda. At the finale held at the par 72 Karen Country Club on September 29, Jane Njau anchored her team to victory after scoring a remarkable 46 points to earn her team the prestigious winning gift of a fully paid golfing trip to Dubai.

She literally complemented her husband Peter Kangethe who was the team’s weakest link on 33 points, while Gabriel Njiri contributed 34 points and Ken Kaunda amassed 33 points. They had a combined score of 113 points.
It was a fairy tale for the winners who were ironically third during the Royal qualifier two months ago and just made it to the Finale after being given special preference.
“We were driven by the fact that we were somehow considered as outsiders. We decided that we wanted to prove that we were not poor despite having finished third at the Royal qualifier. Golf is a mental game and I was in a great mental form given the fact that I was in the same group with my husband, it really calmed my nerves,” said Njau after the finale win.
While in Dubai, the winning four players, will attend the Grand Finale of the European Tour, the DP World Tour Championships at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.
They will also have the opportunity to see Europe’s top 60 money earners on the 2012 Order of Merit battle it out for a 1.3 million winner’s cheque. In addition, they will play at some of the best golf courses in the region, including the Dubai Creek Course and the challenging Faldo Course at the Emirates Golf Club, a course designed by former world number 1 and six-time major Champion Sir Nick Faldo. bijoux pandora en solde bijoux pandora en solde
