Okwara thanked the sponsors for their gesture saying this year’s edition was expected to be one of the most competitive ever.

“Some of the top amateur golfers will be vying for this year’s title. If last year’s tournament is anything to go by, we expect tight competition at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club,” said Okwara.

The registry is packed and all eyes will be on defending Champion Tony Omuli as well as South Africa-based Mohit Mediratta, Great Rift Valley’s Justus Madoya and Kericho’s William Odera.

Last year’s winner R Hanrahan fought a good battle but bowed out in the semis after being defeated by the eventual losing finalist Mitchelmore.

Philip Otodo won the Kanbe class after defeating Michael Kahende in the finals after a single round of 18 holes.
