RAILWAY Golf Club’s Njuguna Ngugi assumed the lead in the on going fourth and final leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Masters tournament after the second round at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club yesterday.

Ngugi who entered the second round trailing over night leader Anil Shah by a single shot, posted level par 71 to dislodge Shah from the lead on a total of one under par 141 (70, 71).

Nakuru’s Richard Ainley who had a false start in the opening round where he managed two over par 73, yesterday played one under par 70 for a total of one over par 143 and in the process jumped to the second spot in the leader board.

David Wakhu of Golf Park has a total of two over par 144 (71, 73) after playing a round of two over par 73 yesterday and is now placed third on the leader board.

Day one leader Shah who resoundingly won last week’s Masters tournament at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club with an impressive total of 12 under, yesterday had a horrible round that saw him manage five over par 76 for a two-round total of three over par 145 and in the process dropped to position four in the leader board where he is tied with four other competitors.

Others in the fourth position include home player Paul Thuo on 145 (73, 72), Golf Park’s Jacob Okello on 145 (72, 73), Nyali’s amateur Daniel Nduva on 145 (73, 73) and Great Rift Valley amateur Justus Madoya on 145 (74, 71).

Royal’s Hardeep Thethy who finished the first day placed second on one under par 70, yesterday had a horrible round that saw him post nine over par 80 for a two round total of 150 gross.

The tournament which has a prize money of Sh350, 000 has brought together a total of 36 professionals and all the six amatuers who will be representing the country during next month’s Kenya Open Golf Championships at the par 70 Karen Golf and Country Club. nike air max womens nike air max womens

HOME player Uday Rajani beat a large field of 252 players to emerge the winner of the 14^th and final Barclays Golf Circuit round at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club on Saturday.

Rajani playing off handicap six posted an identical score of 19 stableford points in both first and second nine for a total of 38 points to narrowly win the day long competition by a single shot.

However, it was junior golfers from the club who stole the show as they produced the best team and three booked their tickets to the Grand Fianle slated for February 22 at the Karen Golf and Country Club.

Junior player Mutahi Kibugu playing off handicap eight stunned the field as he beat handicap eight Pius Angasa on countback to secure the runner-up in the high profile competition on 37 points.

In the first nine, Kibugu posted 16 points before amassing 21 points in the back nine.  Angasa settled for the third spot on 37 points (17, 20).

Handicap 12 Kellie Gachaga also a junior golfer emerged the lady winner on 32 points (14, 18), while handicap 29 Grace Gakiria followed her closely in the lady runner-up position on 31 points (16, 15).

Paul Muia playing off handicap 18 won the guest prize on 32 points (15, 17), while handicap 20 B. Koyier finished as the guest runner-up on 31 points (13, 18).

John Munge playing off handicap 24 won the junior prize on 32 points (15, 17), while the men straightest drive prize went to David Farrar and the lady straightest drive prize went to Olive Njagi.

Raphael Anampiu had the men nearest to the pin and Meera Shah won the lady’s nearest to the pin prize.

The staff prize went to handicap 24 P. Nganga on 27 points (15, 12), while the team prize was won by a team comprising of junior players Kellie Gachaga, Mutahi Kibugu and Sean Nganga after they amassed a collective score of 37 points.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, Barclays Bank’s Managing Director, Jeremy Awori, thanked the participants for turning up in large numbers.

The overall winner during the grand finale will land a fully paid golfing tour on the expansive golf courses in South Africa, while the top 20 at the finale will get slots to play at next month’s Barclays Kenya Open Golf Pro Am.
“The pro-am is a dream for any amateur golfer where they get an opportunity to play with mainly top European professionals that grace the Barclays Kenya Open between March 6 and 9.
