CLUB CAPTAIN MWAURA FLOORS 130 IN RUIRU TO EMERGE WINNER

Ruiru Golf Captain Peter Mwaura shot 44 stableford points to win the Vice Captain Golf Day at Ruiru on Saturday.

Playing off 17, he made 24 in the first nine and 20 on the second, a win that saw his handicap chopped to 14.  “I got some two rare birdies and a numbers of unusual pars. Everything seemed to be in my favour from the course to my precision to an excellent team of low handicappers” said the Captain.

The Men runners up was Patrick Karoki hc 14 posting (21,17) for 38pts while the Lady winner was Susan Mukururi  hcp 30, (19,17) on 36pts.  Susan Kanyora hcp 15 came second with (18,16) 34pts

The nines went to  Nganga Kanene hcp 28, 21pts and Anthony Mwangi hcp 17, 21pts.

Isaiah Nderitu  hcp 18, (15,19) 34pts was the guest winner.

The game, which attracted 130 golfers was to usher in the new Vice Captain Thomas Mwaura, a handicap 19 medical practitioner.

Ruiru will host the Annual Accountants Golf which has drawn 200 golfers on Saturday.

Meanwhile, KCB Bank has launched the 2nd edition of the KCB Karen Masters, a fully sanctioned Sunshine Tour event with Kshs. 15 million in prize money.

The tournament, slated to run from July 17th -22nd, 2018 will be held at the par 72 Karen Country Club and will see 152 local and international pros and 4 top amateurs battle it out for the top honours—the Blue Jacket. This includes 100 top Sunshine Tour golfers, 32 local pros and 20 regional pros.

The backing by the South Africa based Sunshine Tour and the allure of playing at such a world class event is fundamental for the growth of golf in the African Continent.

This is a great avenue for more golfers to play at our prestigious tournament. We are redefining the golfing experience as we engage with golfers across Kenya,” said KCB Group HR Director Paul Russo. “The event is imperative for the development of golf in Kenya and the move will resonate at many levels with our agenda to grow sports in East Africa as one of the biggest sponsors across disciplines,” he added.

The Bank has set aside Kshs.12 million in the sponsorship while Karen Country Club has also reached out to other sponsors to support the event. 

This year’s showdown presents four days of pros competition, two days of pro-am tournament and a junior golf clinic, KCB said. KCB Karen Masters Tournament Director Andy Watt said: “We have been working round the clock to meet the deadlines and I am happy to present a great course and facilities for the 2018 KCB Karen Masters”.

There will be a cut on Friday 20th July that will see 152 golfers reduced to 70 leading golfers who will compete for top honors on Saturday and Sunday.

The event is a culmination of the KCB Road to the Masters, a KCB-sponsored five-leg series that is expected to generate 30 amateur winners to play at the Pro-am. The five events were set for Ruiru (May 12) Limuru Golf Club (May 26), and Eldoret Golf Club (June 16). Nyali (June 30) and Muthaiga (July 7).

KIPRONO WINS KCB ROAD TO THE MASTERS ELDORET LEG TO LEAD NORTH RIFT PRO AM QUALIFIERS TO KAREN MASTERS

Home player Japheth Kiprono emerged the winner of the third round of the KCB Road To The Masters at Eldoret Club over the weekend to lead six qualifiers from North Rift region to KCB Karen Masters Pro-am.

And the handicap 20 player did it in bravado upon firing 39 stableford points and had his campaign effective sewn up after beating men’s winner Kamar Manek on count-back.

Kiprono managed 19 in the first nine.and 20 in.the second nine to pull through. Manek, on the other hand, had it 22 in the first nine and 17 in the second nine.

Manek and Kiprono nevertheless savored a Pro-am slot to the second edition of KCB Karen Masters.

On.his way up, Kiprono parred holes 5, 7 and 13.

Other qualifiers were guest winner N Ongalo from Kakamega on 39 points, staff winner Eliud Siganga (34 points) who is the KCB Bank branch manager, lady winner who is also the ladies. Captain Jane Koech (38points)  and men’s runner up Simon Chepkwony. Koech who was also the day’s birthday lady savored her qualification to the Karen Masters.

“Its such a great pleasure representing the club in the Karen Masters. I will surely give it my all,” said Koech.

Kiprono was all smiles and had this to say: ‘I have been practicing really hard and I’m glad to have won the event. The course was quite fantastic and the Karen Masters Pro-am qualification came as a pleasant surprise, ” said the winner.

Eldoret Club Chairman Andrew Chelogoi, who is also the Kenya Golf Union North Rift representative thanked Kenya Commercial Bank for sponsoring the event which holds the key to Karen Masters Pro-am tickets.

“We now have two major golfing events in Kenya which are the Kenya Open and the Karen Masters which joins the prestigious Sunshine Tour, thanks to KCB Bank Group for bringing some of the very best golfers to Kenya and giving our locals an opportunity to further their skills,” said Chelogoi.

KCB Bank’s Great Rift’s Regional Service Quality Manager Stephen Mosong thanked North Rift golfers for gracing the qualifier.

“Earlier in the week we launched the KCB Karen Masters in Karen and its all systems go as we await to make a debut on the prestigious Sunshine Tour. We take this opportunity to invite you to the next two qualifiers at Nyali on June 30 and Muthaiga on July 7. We are overly excited to host you including our existing and potential customers. For us as KCB  golf is one of our avenues of interacting with our potential customers and appreciating you for your continued support. We ask those of you who are not already customers to, try us and enjoy our partnership to catalyze your lives and businesses” said Mosong.

The first nine winner of the Eldoret KCB sponsored event was Amos Bore on 20 points.

Second nine honors went to S. Nanji on 21 points.

Nearest to the pin winner was non other than George Njoroge. Longest drive Lady winner was Anabwani Amimo while Sunjay Dodhia claim the longest drive men’s honors.

The second runner up on 36 stablford points was Caleb Kositany who incidentally is a the Member of Parliament representing Soy Constituency in Uasin Gishu County.

The event brought together 100 golfers from Kakamega, Kisii, Kitale Golf Club, Mandi Bears, Jericho and Nakuru amongst other guests and staff golfers.
