KTN’S JB MWANGI WINS AIRTEL MEDIA GOLF CHALLENGE THIRD LEG AT GOLF PARK

A late birdie on the 12th and three subsequent pars on the 8th and 16th and 18th catapulted JB Mwangi to the his maiden win of the Airtel media golf challenge held at the Golf park on Saturday.

JB, who bogeyed the first hole and dropped a shot in the second, was on form to collect points on each hole thereafter culminating with a total of 39 stableford points three points ahead of second placed Tony Kwalanda from K24.

JB attributed his win to practice and the right frame of mind. “It was great to win, I am very proud today as it confirms that practice makes it perfect, the greens were tricky but all I can say is that I very happy with my performance” he said.

Long hitting Kwalanda fired 17 points on the first nine and 19 on the second nine, having dropped shots on the 5th and 14th, owing to what he said was “strong gusts of wind from the left”.

The ladies prize went to Josphine Ngumba from the people daily.

Others who received top honours include Mwaura Kimani from the East African, with 34 points, Kipchillat Kimaru from the presidential press services. The staff prize went to Airtel’s Tom Indimuli while Lee Mwandiki and Robert Ndwiga received prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin respectively.

Airtel also announced that it would soon be re-launching its money transfer service Zap to Airtel money according Sieka Gatabaki, the head of Airtel’s head of money transfer services. Without divulging a lot of details, he hinted that the new service is set to revolutionalize money transfer services in the country.

Over 30 journalists were battling it out for the prestigious red jacket to be awarded to the top performer in December, in a points based format where the winner bags 10 precious points in each tournament.

Tournament organizers Thinktank marketing said the next tournament will be held at the end of June when the standings of the players will also be announced

DISMAS INDIZA WINS KCB GOLF TOUR IN ARUSHA

Mumias  golfer Dismas Indiza made a major come back to win his  first KCB East African golf tour this season. Indiza who untill now had been on the leader board despite not  having won any of the past four rounds, solidified his position after he played 65 under par 72 at the lush Gymkana golf glub in Arusha, Tanzania.

Indiza did not drop any shot on the last day of the tournament. Starting the day at position three and having played one under par yesterday, Indiza was trailing the leader Greg Snow by two points and a solitary point behind Simon Ngige Indiza started the front nine with two pars on the first two holes, picked a shot on the third and got a level par on the fourth and fifth. He picked a single shot on the 6th got a par on the 7th and got an impressive birdie at the par 5 8th hole before finishing it up with a par on the ninth.

At the back nine, indiza picked a shot on the 10th followed it up with four consecutive pars and got a second birdie at the 15 and finished with three pars on the last three holes.
“Am happy i won today, i have been on the leader board without winning any, but i managed to beat them despite the windy conditions of the course today” said a elated Indiza who will pocket ksh 198,000 as his prize money.

Greg Snow was second after he lost his lead to Indiza having been on the leader board since day one. Greg played 3 under par 72. Starting the front nine with two consecutive birdies on the first holes he followed his impressive start with three consecutive pars, but dropped a shot at the 6th hole. An eagle at the 7th and two pars on the last two holes he finished with  2 under par.

He started the back nine with two pars on the 10th and picked a shot on the 12th followed it up with two pars on the 13 and 14th. Greg then picked another shot on the 15 carded a par on the 16th and 17th and finished of with a bogey to fly back home with Ksh 145,000.

Defending champion Simon Ngige played level par to finish third. Getting three under par on the first nine and three over par on the last nine.

Ngige dropped a shot on the first hole but recovered with a birdie on the second hole, he followed it up with par on the 3rd and 4th then picked a shot on the 5th.

He then carded three consecutive pars and picked a shot on the ninth hole.

He stated the back nine by dropping a shot on the 10th, recovered with two pars, dropped a shot on the 13 and picked a shot on the14th. He carded a par on the 15th dropped a shot on the 16th and 17th and got a par on the last hole to cash in Ksh 109,000.

Dismas Indiza leads the tour with the next tournament teeing off at the Kigali Golf Club in a fortnight. canada goose sale damen canada goose sale damen
