MALIK RESIST STRONG CHALLENGE TO WIN IMPERIAL BANK SPONSORED JUNIOR EVENT AT ROYAL

Junior sensational Tailmeer Malik resisted stiff challenge from Njoroge Kibugu to win this year’s Royal Marbel Junior Golf tournament sponsored by Imperial Bank at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Sunday.

Malik posted 52 gross to win the 7-8 years old categoryafter a fierce nine-hole competition on a cold afternoon. Kibugu settled for the runner-position on 60 gross, while Wairethi Mutahi was third on 67 gross.

“This is good practice and it would help our golfing careera lot. We need more similar events in future to hone our golfing skills,” said Kibugu who plays at Muthaiga Golf Club. In the six years and below category, Waridi Maina was unbeatable after he amassed 79 gross, while David Killinkoy had to beat Alex Kamau on countback to finish second on 86 gross. Kamau settled for third position on 86 gross. Staurt Gitau reigned supreme in the 9-10 years old category, scoring 51 gross and Korby Gatiramu closely followed him in the second positionon 53 gross. Wilborne Kibugu, an elder brother of Njoroge Kibugu was third on54 gross.

Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) chairman Ashwin Gidoomal saidthe tournament was great success and lauded Royal Club and sponsors ImperialBank for organising it. Gidoomal JGFwas taking a new dimension on the sport to help increase junior participationin golf.

KIGALI HOSTS REGIONAL PROS IN THE 5TH LEG OF KCB GOLF TOUR

Rwanda’s number one golf course, Par 72 Kigali Golf Club will this week between May 25 to 28 host the fifth round of the KCB East African Golf Tour.
The four-rounds event dubbed, KCB Bank Rwanda Open has attracted a record field of 35 professional players from the East African region, who are expected to battle it out for the top prizes.
Kenya will be represented by a strong contingent of 24 professional golfers. Leading the pack will be long-hitter Dismas Indiza who won recently the KCB Bank Tanzania Open after edging out two promising golfers, Muthaiga’s Greg Snow and Thika’s Simon Ngige at Arusha Gymkhana.
First round (Thika) and third round winner (Nyanza) of the KCB tour, Simon Ngige who emerged the winner last year in Kigali Golf Club is expected to repeat the same feat. He will be joined by Greg Snow who won the second round of the tour at Muthaiga Golf Club.
Other outstanding golfers lined up for the stiff challenge include; left-handed Richard Ainley, Ali Kimani, Brian Njoroge, Nicholas Rokoine among others.
Tanzania will be represented by a contingent of over 6 players namely; Bryceson Nyenza, Farayi Chitengwa, Yasin Salehe, Stanley Sanga, Salum Ndilunga and Juma Mbwana.
In addition, two Rwanda professional golfers Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptiste are ready to stage a tough challenge for the regional elite golfers converging at Kigali.
Deo Akope will sorely represent Uganda in the challenge hoping to take a share of the KShs 1 million prize fund on offer from KCB Bank.
The sixth round of the KCB East African Golf Tour will be held at Nakuru Golf Club between June 8-11 where a total of Kshs 500,000 prize fund will be on offer.
This year KCB has put together a sponsorship package of Sh8.7m for the eight events whose grand finale worth Sh3m will take place at Nyali Golf and Country Club Mombasa from August 10.
