SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s The Northern Trust at the Liberty National Golf Course in New Jersey from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 August 2021.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The Northern Trust dates back to 1967 – when it was known as the Westchester Classic – and its first champion was the great Jack Nicklaus. This year’s Northern Trust will be the 55th edition and sees a return to New Jersey after being held at TPC in Boston in 2020.

Last year’s Northern Trust saw Dustin Johnson claim a brilliant 11-stroke victory ahead of Harris English, with the American claiming his third title at the Liberty National Golf Course (adding to wins in 2011 and 2017). His overall score of 254 (-30) was the tournament record for the Northern Trust.

“I knew I was playing well, and I knew the guys were going to shoot low,” Johnson said after his victory. “I was trying to get to 30 under. I’ve never shot 30 under in four rounds. Just something that I wanted to do.”

Kevin Kisner, who grew up playing junior golf in South Carolina with Johnson added: “He can absolutely dismantle a golf course when he’s on. I’ve been watching it for 25 years. I’m pretty accustomed to it. When he’s on, I just step to the side and try to add to my bank account.”

The 2021 Northern Trust will also see star players Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas return to the tournament, with the latter admitting that he is envious of the Gold Medal Xander Schauffele won at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

“I’m in a house with Xander,” Thomas explained. “And I checked the Medal out. As soon as I saw him, I wanted to see it … it’s really cool. Obviously, I’m very jealous of anybody who’s won any other major or tournaments that I haven’t, but that might have been the most jealous of someone I’ve been. That Gold Medal is so sick; it’s so cool; it’s so unique.”

Other players to watch out for at the Northern Trust include two-time champion Patrick Reed (2016 and 2019), 2018 winner Bryson DeChambeau and current world number one ranked player, Jon Rahm of Spain.

The Liberty National Golf Course is a 7,387 yard par 72 course. The purse for The Northern Trust is $9.5million.
