Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has named a team of 10 players to represent the country in the second edition of Victoria Cup golf tournament slated for July 6 to 8 at Entebbe Golf Club Uganda.

The tournament first played at Muthaiga Golf club in June 2016, pits Kenya’s top amateurs against Uganda’s top players where each country fields 10 golfers playing on Ryder Cup format. During the inaugural tournament, Kenya emerged the winner.

“We selected the team based on the current Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) ranking and they are expected to begin training next week,” said KGU chairman Richard Wanjalla, adding that the union is committed to work the growth of the game nationally.

The team has notable golfers in KAGC series leader Kenya Railways Golf Club’s Alfred Nadwa, multiple Golfer of the Year award winner Kenneth Bollo of Royal Nairobi Golf Club as well as former GOTY winner and captain John Karichu of Limuru Country Club.

Other team member include Vet Lab’s Mike Kisia and Edwin Mudanyi, Samuel Njoroge of Kenya Railways, Dennis Saikwa of Royal Nairobi Club, Jeff Kubwa and Mutahi Kibugu from Muthaiga Golf Club as well as Nyali’s Agil Is Hag.

Six of the members in the squad will be participating in the event for the first time. The international test match for the two countries will be sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited under the brand Tusker Malt Lager (TML).
The team will be accompanied by KGU chairman Richard Wanjalla his vice Lucas Maranga who will double up as the tournament director and KGU head coach John Patrick van Liefland.
