Mobile phone provider Safaricom has committed Sh4 million towards the 2016 Barclays Kenya Open, as part of its commitment to be the tournaments sole connectivity provider.

Safaricom will supply a mix of cutting edge technologies that will aim to streamline communications at the globally recognized event which attracts players and spectators from across the world.

The Kenya Open continues to form a key part of the global golfing calendar. We are pleased to be associated with the event once again as sole connectivity provider. The Kenya Open continues to enhance the image of Kenya on the global map and it also offers our professionals an opportunity to play with their peers from all over the world,” said Rita Okuthe, Director – Safaricom Business.

Under the terms of the partnership, Safaricom Business will provide an ultra-modern media centre at the venue. The centre will be fitted with computers and high speed internet access to allow journalists to file stories as well act as the communication center for the professionals and the tournament directors.

The media centre will be equipped with computers with high internet connectivity speeds supported by the firm’s high speed Wifi and 4G networks. In addition, Safaricom will set up a cyber café for the professional golfers to access the internet.

The media centre will also be equipped with additional facilities such as fax machines, phone lines, photocopiers and much more with the aim to allow for efficient, real time communication.

Speaking during the same event, Mr. Muchau Githaka, Director, Kenya Open Golf LTD, said that the success of the tournament was based on key and strategic partnerships like the one with Safaricom.

The Barclays Kenya Open is part of the European Golf Tour with a high level of visibility globally. Several local and international players will be gunning for the top prizes and a chance to play in the European PGA.
