Top Mombasa lady golfers, Kelen Weku, handicap-22 and Wanjiru Ikua, handicap-27, emerged tops at the NIC Bank sponsored golf day at the Mombasa Golf Club when they both posted a sizzling 42 points.

Battling through the strong South-East Trade Winds, the Kusi-winds, the ladies opened their rounds with a bang with Weku posting 22-points whilst Ikua went all out to post a massive 24 points.

On the back nine Weku maintained her composure and with the winds picking up dramatically in the later part of the day, her conservative play bore fruit and the resulting 20 points was enough to earn her the Championship over Ikua who could only manage 18 points.

Speaking at the evening celebrations, Weku thanked thesponsors for putting together a great event. “This is our first major event at Mombasa Golf Club this year and I would like to thank NIC Bank for choosing our club to host this prestigious event,” Weku said. “That I played well on such a big occasion and with over 100-golfers from all the Coast golf clubs in attendance is a huge bonus for me.”

Speaking at the same ceremony, NIC’s Allan Dodd, congratulated the winners. “On behalf of the NIC Bank, I would like to thank golfers from all around the Coast region for joining us here at the Mombasa Golf Club and participating in this event,” Dodd said. “For the winners, well done, it is a great sporting feat to play so well in the windy conditions at Mombasa, I salute you.”
