SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 March 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The Valspar Championship was founded in the year 2000 as the Tampa Bay Classic and has had just three different players win the tournament more than once: K.J. Choi (2002, 2006), Retief Goosen (2003, 2009) and Paul Casey (2018, 2019). American Sam Burns is the reigning champion of the event, having shot a 267 (-17) to win by three strokes ahead of compatriot Keegan Bradley in 2021.

“I always felt that you had to play perfect golf to win,” Burns said after his triumph. “I always felt that you had to play your absolute best on a Sunday to win. And after those experiences, I realised that it’s not the case. I was trying to do too much.”

Burns will return to defend his title, but he faces a stiff challenge from a high-class field which also includes Collin Morikawa, who will make his tournament debut, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas.

“This is just the start of what we anticipate will be a truly outstanding field,” said tournament director Tracy West. “Many favourites of our Copperhead fans, including other past champions, should be committing in the weeks ahead. In addition, we are hopeful that some relatively new faces will also be joining us.”

One of those new faces will be Jackson Stuber, a senior at University of Mississippi, who was awarded with a sponsor’s exemption to take part in the Valspar Championship and make his PGA Tour debut.

Stuber brings great form to the tournament, having recently won his third career individual tournament title at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational, firing a 205 (-11) to claim the crown. He also had an additional top 10 finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, finishing tied for sixth overall.

The Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club is 7,340 yards long and a par 71. The purse for the Valspar Championship is $7.8million.

SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s The Players Championship at the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 March 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf  fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

Sometimes dubbed ‘The Fifth Major’, The Players Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf and always attracts a high-class field. Last year’s edition was won by Justin Thomas, who shot a 274 (14 under) to finish one stroke ahead of runner-up Lee Westwood.

Thomas recently ruffled some feathers when he took a shot at golf great Phil Mickelson for helping organise a Saudi Golf League to rival the PGA Tour.

Seems like a bit of a pretty, you know, egotistical statement,” the 28-year-old said of Mickelson’s claim that the PGA Tour is greedy. “I don’t know, it’s like he’s done a lot of great things for the PGA Tour, it’s a big reason it is where it is, but him and others that are very adamant about that, if they’re that passionate, go ahead. I don’t think anybody’s stopping them.”

After the 2021 Players Championship saw only a limited capacity of fans in attendance, this year’s edition will be closer to what was experienced in the past, according to tournament executive director Jared Rice.

It was awesome that we were able to do what we did in 2021. The community was super responsible. And, again, it’s realising how important that was for our sport at the time. But that’s not who we are long term,” Rice said.

He added, “We’re aspiring to be the best experience in golf, period. And I think for anybody that has come out to the Players Championship in the past, you can see some of those steps that we’ve been making over the years.

Really focusing on culinary, diverse experiences, having programming over the course of the week. And, oh yeah, by the way, you can watch the world’s best players take any shot at any day on any hole.”

Aside from Thomas defending his title, other players to watch out for include Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

The TPC at Sawgrass features a par 72, 7,189-yard course. The purse for The Players Championship is $20million.
