SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course from Thursday 31 March to Sunday 3 April 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The Valero Texas Open celebrates 100 years of existence, having been established in 1922, and is the sixth oldest professional golf tournament worldwide, the third oldest on the PGA Tour and the longest held in the same city (San Antonio).

The 2021 edition of the tournament was won by American Jordan Spieth, who shot an 18 under 270 to take the title by two strokes ahead of compatriot Charley Hoffman. The defending champion will be back this year to try and retain his crown.

“Winning the Valero Texas Open last year was incredibly special for me and my family,” explained Spieth. “We’re really looking forward to returning to San Antonio to defend my title and the fact that it’s the 100th anniversary of the tournament makes it even more exciting.”

All eight champions returning for the 100th anniversary of the Valero Texas Open have won it in the past ten years. Joining Spieth are Corey Conners (2019), Andrew Landry (2018), Kevin Chappell (2017), Charley Hoffman (2016), Jimmy Walker (2015), Martin Laird (2013) and Brendan Steele (2011).

This group has accumulated 33 PGA Tour career titles, including four major championships. For Conners, Landry, Chappell and Steele, the Valero Texas Open represents their first PGA Tour title.

“As we prepare for a historic edition of the Valero Texas Open, we are delighted this incredible group of champions from over the past decade will be returning,” said Larson Segerdahl, Valero Texas Open Executive Director. “We are excited to host the best players in the world and celebrate 100 years of the tournament with the entire San Antonio community while raising charitable funds for those in need.”

Another to watch out for is Rory McIlroy, who will be looking to tune up his game ahead of The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia later in April.

“I am looking forward to returning to San Antonio and being a part of the 100th Anniversary of the Texas Open,” said McIlroy. “I have fond memories of my last time competing there.”

The TPC San Antonio Oaks Course is a 7,435-yard par 72 course. The purse for the Valero Texas Open is $8.6million.

The 97th edition of the annual Tannahill Golf Tournament is set to take place from the 15th to 17th of April 2022 at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The tournament is regarded as one of the biggest amateur golf events in Sub Saharan Africa and will bring together the best amateur players from 9 golf clubs from Nairobi, Mombasa, and Western provinces to compete for coveted Tannahill Shield.

Unlike other golf events, the Tannahill Golf Tournament is played by teams, instead of individuals of amateur golfers from various clubs who are keen to showcase their golfing skills and team spirit whilst enjoying the company of other competing golfers,” says Royal Nairobi’s golf captain Stanley Kirui. “We have been in contact with all participating teams, and they are all excited and training hard so that they can win this coveted trophy,’’ added the captain.

The participating clubs this year are Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Mombasa Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Western Kenya, Limuru Country Club, Vet Lab Sports Club, Kenya Railways Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club and Karen Country Club.

Activities preceding the main tournament on Easter Sunday, April 17th will be the Junior Easter Tournament – whose participants will be juniors invited from all clubs in Kenya to compete for this trophy. Seven teams have confirmed participation for the junior tournament. For the first time, seniors will make a debut on the Good Friday morning of 15th April 2022 for the inaugural Tannahill Seniors Trophy. The senior’s tournament is open to golfers over 55 years of age.

The Tannahill tournament is the brainchild of Major Arthur Tannahill and was inaugurated in 1924 as an annual event when the general committee of the then Nairobi Golf Club invited teams representing Mombasa, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nakuru and Muthaiga to participate in the tournament. Every club plays one match against each of the other clubs, eight players a side and the format was four-ball-better-ball match play.

It is the only three-way competitive foursomes match play tournament in the world. The Foursomes is a competition format in which a team is comprised of two players, and those two golfers alternate hitting the same ball sometime called “alternate shot” format.

The tournament this year is sponsored by Jamii Telecommunications and supported by, Chipper Cash, Merican Solutions, Rentco Group, First Assurance, CPF, Crown Paints and Safaricom.
