The thirteenth leg of the Tusker Malt Golf Carnival stops over at the Thika Golf Club this weekend with a field of over 200 players. This is after a successful tour in the Kenyan coast where lady golfer Silvana Franciolli handicap 17, was crowned the winner of the 11th leg of the held at the Malindi Golf and Country Club with 32 stableford points. The pair of Duncan Mitchell handicap 27 and Peter Driest handicap 20 scored a 46 point to top the Nyali Golf and Country Club twelfth leg of the tournament.

The Thika Golf Club event in the Tusker Malt’s Golf Carnival amateur golf series, which aims to advance the popularity of golf using the‘Four Ball Better Format’, has drawn players from the host club and a sizeable number from neighboring clubs like Ruiru, Makuyu, Kiambu and Muthaiga. The host Captain, Patrick Gakuo says that the format is good enoughfor amateur golfers. “When a high handicap golfer comes together to play with alow handicap golfer the performance tends to be always better in the four ball better format,” he says.

The earliest tee is at 7:30 and last tee off at 2pm. “This will enable us start the activities early and bring them to a close in good time for the presentation which is scheduled to start at 7:30pm,” says Captain Gakuo. He further asserts that the course is in good condition but is a little bit dry with the prevailing hot season. “With the dry weather, golfers should expect an easy time as the ball runs far,” says Gakuo. “However, they should ensure that they carry something to drink in the course as the hot weather can drain their energies,” he adds.

The Tusker Malt Golf Carnival is scheduled to visit 30 golf clubs and engage some 10, 000 golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda in a regional tour aimed at promoting bonding and friendship, the brand value of Tusker Malt.

“As usual EABL and Tusker malt has never disappointed and the members are looking forward to this day on their golfing calendar. Tusker Malt visits have grown very popular in Thika and we are expecting a full house,” says Gakuo.

Kiambu County Forum (KCF) which consists of Kiambu Businessmen, professionals, public servants, clergy and various other stakeholders from the county are set to host the first County Golf Event since the promulgation of the new constitution. The event will be held on 17^th February 2012 at the vast Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club. Tee off start in the morning.

The golf event is supported highly by golfers from the region as the region boasts of some of the best golf courses in the country among them, Thika Sports Club, Kiambu Golf Club, Limuru Country Club, Sigona Golf Club and Ruiru Sports Club. Other upcoming courses in the region include Migaa.

While announcing the plans the coordinator of the event Mr. Bryan Waruhiu welcomed all well wishers to support the event and forward their details through the already established secretariat. The event has so far attracted sponsorship from individuals and corporate organisations in Kiambu County as the area present huge market for their products and services due to its proximity to the Capital city.

The golf tournament is open to all men, juniors and lady golfers from across the country with a valid handicap.

The event will be followed by a grand dinner with a massage at the same venue, during which, the development strategies of the county will be discussed. The aim of the forum is to moderate and guide the technical planning and formation of Kiambu County government so as to enable it seize the economic opportunities through the development process of planning and prioritization of such strategies.

The forum is looking at development of a ten year strategic plan with the objective of issue based county management process that will spur faster growth and economic empowerment to the people of the region if good governance and leadership are employed at the very beginning.

As the Chairman of the forum, together with the KCF leadership, are also looking at ways of empowering and inspiring the youth in the region so as to improve their living conditions. One of the ways to achieve this is by rehabilitating the stadiums in the region and having organised sports to identify and develop talents.
