MIKE KISIA BAGS SAFARI TOUR TITLE ON HOME GROUNDS AT VET LAB

Homeboy Mike Kisia from Vet Lab Sports Club today emerged the winner of the second leg of the Safari tour golf series on home course, the par 72 VetLab golf club courtesy of an impressive gross score of 292.

The second leg of the series had attracted over 50 golfers from Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and the hosts Kenya for four days in a row culminating yesterday.

Elated by the win, Kisia walked home with a cash prize of Sh150,000. Speaking to the People Daily sports, Kisia was grateful to God and his sponsors for making his win possible as he looks forward to maintaining his game in the subsequent legs.

“I thank God for this win, and am very grateful to my sponsors including Betika and my caddie for playing his part on the course. Am so happy for my first Safari Tour win and God willing am hoping to capture more wins in the remaining legs.”

Kisia’s rounds unfolded as follows: 75 in the first round, 70 in the second, 75 in the third, and 72 in the fourth round, showcasing his consistency and resilience on the golf course. His outstanding efforts earned him the coveted first-place position, accompanied by a well-deserved prize of Sh150,000.

Notably, Dismas Indiza from Mumias Golf Club and Samuel Njoroge from Railway Golf Club tied for second, each concluding the tournament with a total score of 295. Both players walked away with prizes of Sh90,000.

Your dedication contributes to the success of these events, and I look forward to seeing more remarkable displays in the upcoming tournaments.” Furthermore, Chairman Ochola confirmed that there are four more events scheduled for the following year, promising continued excitement for golf enthusiasts. He also announced that the top eight players from the series will have the prestigious opportunity to participate in the 2024 Magical Kenya Open, further elevating the significance of the Safari Tour.

THETHY’S CHAIRMAN’S PRIZE TOURNEY REACHES CLIMAX AT ROYAL NAIROBI CLUB WITH MORE THAN 200 PARTICIPANTS

A large field of more than 200 players has been drawn to play at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s Chairman’s Prize tournament slated for Friday and Saturday at the par 72 golf course.

The tournament that has been organised by outgoing club chairman Jatinder Thethy who has served in the position for a year now will reach its climax tomorrow after a week of activities that started with a juniors tournament on Sunday, then a tree planting ceremony, before a caddies event that attracted 110 caddies and then a tournament for professional players and a club night. Thethy 49, who started playing golf at the age of 12, will be remembered for several achievements at the club including a heated swimming pool, a dam, and a borehole.

Meanwhile, during the Chairman’s Prize’s pro tournament, Muthaiga pro Greg Snow fired one over par 73 to emerge the winner.

Snow, one of Kenya’s finest pro golfers, shot 36 in the front nine and 37 in the back nine to beat Vet Lab’s Isaiah Otuke by a solitary shot.

Otuke, on his part, fired a 37 in the front nine and repeated the score in the back nine to settle for second position.

On his way up Snow made four birdies in holes 3, 7, 13, and 15 and parred holes 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18.

The celebrated Muthaiga pro dropped four shots including the par 4 twelfth where he picked up a double bogey.

Third was home player Hesbon Kutwa with scores of 37 and 39 for a gross total of 4 over par 76. Mohit Mediratta of Sigona came fourth with a gross total of 5 over par 77 returning scores of 39 and 38 on both nines.

Joint fifth with 9 over par 81 were Kopan Timbe and G. Giddie.
