It will be all systems go as Kenya’s newest 18-hole golf course, Vetlab, gets ready to host its first golfer of the year event, the Kabete Open, this weekend.

Kenya’s top amateurs will on Friday tee-off at the par 72 golf course as they bid to become the country’s Number One amateur this season.

Current GOTY standings leader David Opati will lead the field as he hopes to stretch his lead at the helm, but he expects a run for his money especially from international Mathew Omondi and Robinson Owiti who will be enjoying their home course.

“We are honoured to be given this event by the Kenya Golf Union and have done everything possible to ensure the players have a successful outing with the usual Kabete hospitality,” said Captain, Kuria kihara.

Over 50 amateurs will play the 54-hole tournament with Vetlab members beefing up the numbers in a subsidiary category on Saturday. The players weill cover 36 holes on Friday playing off the white tees and face the final 18 holes on Saturday off the blue tees. maillots foot maillots foot

Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Captain Peter Njagi of Kiambu has said only 25 players will make the cut after Thursday’s second round of the on going KCB Tour Grand Finale at Nyali Club.
“Those who fail to make the cut will be allowed to play Friday’s ProAm in the afternoon. The ones who make the cut will play the proAm in the morning,” said Njagi.
One of the major attractions this year is veteran Tanzanian professional, the  65 year-old veteran player Salim Mwanyenza who celebrated his 42nd anniversary as a member of Dar Gymkhana Golf Club this month.
Mwanyenza teed off from the 10th tee at 9.20 on Wednesday for the first round along with the Kenyan duo of Peter Njagi and S. Kahindi and played a round of 8 over par 79.
Addis Ababa based Ethiopian lone- ranger Haile Ghebreeghziabher was all smiles as he also teed-off from the 10th tee together with Kenyans David Wakhu and Fred Kamau.
“We are looking forward to some great competition considering the fact that all the top pros from the region are here,” said Ghebree.
Deo Akope leads the Ugandan assault along with the likes of Vincent Byamukama.
Tanzania has entered 9 pros including Hassan Kadio, Yasin Salehe and Mwanyenza  who graced the Kenya Open event in the 1970s the same period he won the Kenya National Amateur Championship.
Rwanda’s campaign is being spearheaded by two players Jean Baptiste and J. Ruterana  who are among the top players in their country.
So far, Rwanda has a total of seven pros playing golf in their country.
“We now have seven pros in Rwanda at the moment but we would like organizers of the Kenya Open to extend at least five slots to each of the East African countries,” said Baptiste who is a member of Kigali Golf Club. pandora pas cher pandora pas cher
