Top local amateur golfers meet converge at the 18-hole Thika Sports Club this weekend in hunt for valuable Golfer Of The Year (GOTY) points during this year’s Winstone Churchill tournament.

A field of 44 players, among them five members of the national team that recently took part in the Africa Zone VI championship in Windhoek Namibia, will be in action.

Nelson Simwa who finished second last year, will be eager to make amends for his slow start to the season that has seen placed 18th on the log after five events, an issue that raised eye brows when he included in the national team to the Africa Zone VI tournament at the expense of some well placed players.

Limuru’s John Karichu currently leads the Goty series with a total of 72.26 points after registering back-to-back wins at the Mount Kenya Championship and Muthaiga Open.

Vet Lab’s Robinson Owiti, however, won the last Goty event, the Windsor Classic and he will among the top favourites at Thika.

Great Rift’s Justus Madoya, national team captain Mathew Omondi and Golf Park’s Tony Omuli are also expected to spice-up the tournament in search of crucial points. huarache noir huarache noir
