MWAZICHE WINS SAFARICOM BUSINESS GOLF TOUR OF ROYAL NAIROBI

Safaricom HoD Enterprise Business Unit , Tony Tugee, tees off at the first nine during the Safaricom Business Challenge Golf Tour at Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 27, home golfer Emmanuel Mwaziche played an impressive 44 stableford points to win the eighth round of Safaricom Business Challenge Golf tournament held at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

Mwaziche shot two pars in holes 6 and 7 for a total of 22 in the front nine; he followed it with another two pars in holes 13 and 17 in the back nine for a total of 22.

Mwaziche beat a large field of 237 amateur golfers who turned up at Royal Nairobi golf club. He won a Samsung galaxy Note, a trophy and airtime worth Shs.10, 000 courtesy of sponsors Safaricom.

Second placed and men’s winner was Benson Theuri playing off handicap 28 with a 44 stableford points.

Royal Nairobi Golf course teemed with golfers from various courses including Muthaiga, Sigona, Thika, Golf Park and Vetlab Golf clubs.

The greens were well kept and I just hit my balls in the path that I wanted and luckily I made good choices. I scratched hole 5 but recovered thereafter; today was good for me since I’m an amateur” said Mwaziche.

The shire high score and a large pool of golfers in this tournament is a testimony to the growth in the sport in the country.

David Mugere from Royal Nairobi Golf Club was in third position with 40 stableford points.

Nancy Ikinu from Royal Nairobi Golf Club won the ladies tittle with a superb 39 stableford points. The junior winner was none other than Njogu Kungu with a sure 32 stableford points. The guest winner was Tan Yong with 41 points.

Staff category winner was Joseph Mwendwa playing off handicap 18 who carded an impressive 31 stableford points.

Safaricom Business Challenge gives amateur golfers a platform to develop their skills in a very stiff competition for prizes. The tournament has so far been staged in seven golf courses across the country.

MACHARIA WINS FIRST LEG OF KQ SAFARI GOLF AT RAILWAYS CLUB

BK Macharia playing off handicap 19 emerged the overall winner of the first leg of the Kenya Airways Safari Golf which culminated at Railways Golf Club on Saturday.
In winning the opening leg of the tour, Macharia qualified for the Grand Finale alongside Men winner LK Njagi and lady winner Shelmith W. Muraguri.
Over and above his good performance, Macharia won two return tickets to fly to any KQ destination within Africa.
Macharia, who is a member of Railways Club shot 16 in the first nine and 22 in the back nine for a total of 38 stableford points.
The men’s Runner Up was EG Runu while men’s number three was T. Murithi.

The ladies runner up trophy went to Florence Kamau.
Anthony Mwaura won the longest drive trophy for men while P Muthoni claimed longest drive honors for ladies.
Lynn Ngugi emerged the guest winner with R Maina winning the nearest drive.
Macharia was all smiles after qualifying for the Grand Finale that will be held at Windsor in March 2015. .
“It was a nice day for me. The first nine wasn’t that good for me but I was able to pick myself up in the back nine with some good putting and shots,” said Macharia who parred four times in holes 9, 10, 13 and 18.
The first leg brought together 136 golfers drawn from three clubs namely Moi Air Base, Machakos and hosts Railways.
Kenya Airways Marketing Director Chris Diaz said the Company is proud to start off the Series in one of Kenya’s oldest and historic Clubs.
“We will continue to work closely with the Club and we promise to be back here again next time round. We will also continue working closely with Kenya Golf Union in developing the gane of golf in the country,” said Diaz who was speaking on behalf of the New CEO Mbuvi Ngunze. The event, which is one of the 15 events being held locally saw golfers play their hearts out. The second leg of the event moves to Limuru Country Club next Saturday. The international calendar of the KQ Safari Golf also starts this Saturday at the Tema Golf Club in Ghana.
Winners in every round of the series will walk away with a return ticket to one of the destinations that Kenya Airways flies to within Africa in addition to an opportunity to play in the grand finale slated for March next year in Nairobi.
The winner of the Grand Finale takes home the coveted KQ Golf Safari 2014/15 title, as well as a golf holiday for two to watch the British Open at the Home of Golf, The Old Course St. Andrews in July 2015.
Out of the 28 tournaments, 15 will be held in different golf courses in Kenya. Locally, the Kenya Airways Golf Safari will be played at the Thika Golf Club, Limuru Golf Club, Windsor Golf Club, Nyeri Golf Club, Nyali Golf Club, Royal Golf Club, Eldoret Golf Club, Nyanza Golf Club, Vet lab Golf club, Kiambu Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club and Karen Golf Club. cheap nike air max 90 online cheap nike air max 90 online
