OMULI MAINTAINS SLIM LEAD AT KCB THIKA EVENT

Golf Park’s Tony Omuli today maintained his lead after the second round of the ongoing KCB Pro-Am tournament at the par 72 Thika Sports Club.
He is, however, enjoying a single shot lead over Muthaiga’s Greg Snow as he is on eight under par 136 going into today’s third round.
Omuli who turned professional five months ago, sunk birdies on holes 1, 2, 7, and 9 for a score of 32 gross in the first nine. In the second nine he picked shots on holes 10 and 16 for a total of 36 gross and only dropped two shots. Only 12 professional players made the cut after yesterday’s round.
Snow is second on seven under par 137, followed by Njuguna Ngugi and Brian Njoroge who are tied third on three under par 141.

I got a good experience at the Kenya Open last week even though I missed the cut, the exposure was a vital impetus to my performance going forward,” said Omuli.

OMULI TAKES ONE SHOT LEAD AS KCB PRO AM SECOND LEG TEES OFF AT THIKA SPORTS CLUB

Golf Park’s Tony Omuli on Tuesday took an early lead as the second leg of the KCB Pro Am competition teed off at the par 72 Thika Sports Club golf course.
Omuli played four under par 68 to carry a slim one shot lead going into Wednesday’s second round. Hot on his heels is J. Waweru Karanja on three under par 69, while Greg Snow, Njuguna Mwangi and Paul Thuo are tied third on two under par 70.
Omuli in his round sunk three birdies, five pars and a bogey for a total of 33 in the front nine. In the back nine he shot an impressive eight pars and a single birdie on hole 15 for a score of 35.
The prolific golfer who had been a regular of the national team as an amateur where he represented the country in the Africa zone six and the East Africa Championship for a couple of years, turned professional last year. He now leads 29 other golfers in the competition that will run for four rounds.
“The course is fine and the greens are fair considering it has been raining. I had good outing today but I will need to improve on my putts in the coming days to see if I can win this tournament,” said Omuli.
Second placed Karanja sunk five birdies on holes one, two, eight, and nine for a score of 34 in the first nine. He dropped some shots in the second nine managing two birdies on holes 12 and 15 following it up with a couple of pars and bogeys for a score of 33 in the second nine.
