On form local amateur Kenneth Bollo has laid his sights on the Golfer Of The Year (GOTY) title and plan to use this weekend’s Uhuru Shield to close the gap between him and the series leader John Karichu.

Bollo who plays off scratch is currently second in the GOTY standings and trails Limuru’s Karichu by 40 points, but believes the leader is within a striking distance and is confident of going past him in the last two legs of the series. After Uhuru Shield, which is the 17th leg of the series, the season is expected to end with the Nyali Open on December 12 and 13.

Karichu is under pressure and I can see him fumbling in the remaining legs and I want to take full advantage of the situation. I only need to pick a maximum of 24 points this weekend and also strive to pick the same in Nyali and hope that Karichu does not perform well,” said Bollo who is a member of Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

He added: “I have been practising well and I will be going for nothing less than victory and a under par score. I know the course well being my home club and will be having a slight advantage over the rest.”

Karichu has so far won the Windsor Classic and the Kabete Open this year and been influential in the national team.

The 54-hole competition will bring together 52 top amateurs to battle out for top honours. Among the players to spice up the competition are Bollo, Karichu, Vet Lab’s Edwin Mudanyi, home player Jay Sandhu, Justus Madoya of Great Rift Valley, Dennis Saikwa, Agil Is Hag and Anthony Kinuthia among others.
