Thika Sports Club resident pro Simon Ngige is the 2016 Jamii Telecom PGK Masters winner after leading the four round tournament in the last two days at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club.

Ngige achieved the feat with rounds of 72, 68, 69 and 72 for a total of 3 under par 281gross.

His round of 1 over par 72 yesterday could not stymie his spirited run for the coveted title and a cash prize of Ksh. 102,000 to boot.

Former GOTY star Tony Omuli of Golf Park wrapped up the event in second overall position with level par 284 gross after shooting 72, 69, 75 and 68 in yesterday’s round. Omuli pocketed ksh 62,000. This year’s event carried a prize fund of ksh 1million.

Day Two leader Njuguna M. Ngugi of Railways finished third overall after posting 70, 70, 73, 72 for a gross total of 1 over par 285.

Four players David Wakhu, Nelson Simwa, home player Frank Matilo, Windsor’s Riz Charania and Greg Snow finished joint fourth with a total scoreof   5 under par 289 gross.

Dismas Indiza’s poor run contained at Muthaiga when the Mumias resident professional settled for 9thoverall position with a disappointing total of 6 over par 290.

Yesterday turned out to be such a disastrous outing for Indiza who shot 7 over par 78 to dip the star golfer from fourth in day three to 9th on the closing round.

Jamii PGK Masters is traditionally the last build-up in the run up to the annual Kenya Open Championship which will take place at Karen Counrty Club from June 17-20.

ONLY FOUR SLOTS FOR LOCAL AMATEURS AT 2016 KENYA OPEN AS TWO SLOTS GO TO FOREIGNERS FOR THE FIRST TIME

For the first time, only four amateur players will represent the country at this year’s Kenya Open Golf Championships to be held at the par 72 Karen Golf and Country Club between March 17 and 20.

The decision was made by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) this week and will see foreigners take the other two slots to make the six amateurs for the Premier golfing event.

The foreigners are Ronald Otile from Uganda and Romaine Langasque from France.

The local amateurs will be led by national golf team captain Kenneth Bollo of Royal Nairobi Golf Club, reigning golfer of the year John Karichu and John Kariuki from Limuru and Nyali’s Mathew Wahome.

Karichu qualified for the Open by virtue of being the Golfer Of The Year 2015 champion while Bollo is the current leader in this year’s GOTY series and Kariuki is the current amateur strokeplay championship. The South Africa based Wahome was included in the Open list because he is the top junior in the country. He won the GOTY in the Junior series last year.
Usually, the GOTY champion, amateur strokeplay and matchplay champions qualify for the Open. Last year’s Matchplay champion is Kericho’s William Odera who however could not be included the in Karen-bound team as he is currently under suspension from his club hence his slot was offered to the Uganda Open champion Otile.
For an amateur to play in the Kenya Open, he must be playing off scratch or better. And like the professionals, the amateurs must make the second round cut to continue playing in the last two rounds. cheap air max cheap air max
