Kenya Golf Union (KGU) will on Friday celebrate its 90th anniversary in a ceremony to be held at Muthaiga Golf Club. A field of over 150 golfers, both professionals and amateurs, is expected to battle it out for a cash reward of Sh 150,000 during the day-long competition.

To honour the historic occasion, the Union has published a commemorative book to showcase its activities and achievements over the years.

This is a big mile stone and to account for the achievements made. The book which will showcase KGU activities over the years will be launched on Friday. We wanted to capture the highlights of the union activities over the years and in the process record some history about the

Union,” explained outgoing KGU chairman Richard Wanjalla. The union, in September, embarked on a mission to collect historical material for the sport in Kenya to come up with the book that will be launched on Friday.

The game of golf in Kenya Started in 1900, with Nairobi Golf Club now Royal Nairobi being one of the earliest courses constructed in 1906 followed by Mombasa Golf Club in 1911. The union was, however, started in 1928.

I trust these works will inspire young and upcoming golfers to understand and appreciate the past. I also believe that the interaction with what we have recorded will provide mentorship and create an array of role models by sharing what the various people who have been involved in KGU have done for the interest and welfare of golf in this country,” Wanjalla said.

The Union will also award Vet Lab Sports Club the 2017 KAGC club of the year trophy while Edwin Mudanyi will receive an award as the 2017 KAGC winner as well as Dennis Saikwa for the Lowest average gross score.

The union will also hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) where a new leadership is expected to take over with Limuru Country Club’s Lucas Marang’a nominated to assume the union’s chairmanship. nike air max cheap wholesale nike air max cheap wholesale
