Obath is no stranger to KOGL or the broader golfing fraternity. Having served as Tournament Director of the Magical Kenya Open since 2011, he has been instrumental in elevating the event to global standards, securing its place on the DP World Tour, and enhancing Kenya’s reputation as a premier golfing destination. His proven leadership and strategic insight made him the natural successor to the outgoing Chairman.

His appointment follows the retirement of two long-serving board members: Mr. Peter Kanyago, who joined KOGL in 2004, and Finance Director Mr. Joe Wangai, who joined in 2011. Together, they have been the backbone of KOGL’s growth and development, overseeing its transition into a globally recognized tournament organizer. Neither sought re-election at the AGM, signaling a respectful and timely passing of the torch.

Obath will now lead a board that includes Ronald Meru, Lucas Marang’a, Zuhura Ogada, Faith Kanaga, Francis Okwara, Regina Gachora, Chris Kinuthia and Brian Akun

The two board vacancies created by Mr. Kanyago’s and Mr. Wangai’s exit will be filled in due course. Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) should be convened as soon as possible to invite applications for the two vacant director positions. The KOGL Board will establish a clear nomination process and timeline for the appointment of new directors.

KOGL remains focused on its mandate, which is organizing the Magical Kenya Open, promoting sports tourism, developing local talent, and leveraging golf as a catalyst for economic and social development.

In his first public remarks as Chairman, while outlining his vision Obath said: “Having elevated the role of golf in the economy and sporting environment, it is now time to support the development of local talent, strengthen partnerships, and inspire the next generation.”

With Obath at the helm and a strong board behind him, KOGL is poised to build on its rich legacy and unlock new opportunities in Kenya’s golfing landscape.

Greg Snow set the pace from the outset, opening the week with a sizzling 68 and maintaining steady form throughout with rounds of 67, 71, and 70. His strong and composed play helped him finish at 12-under-par 276, securing a wire-to-wire victory and cementing his legacy in Kenyan golf.

Trailing Snow by just two strokes, Njoroge Kibugu remained close throughout the event. His rounds of 72, 69, 67, and 70 culminated in a solid 10-under-par 278, reflecting a determined effort, especially with a standout 67 in the third round that kept him in contention until the final holes.

Coming in third place at 8-under-par 280, Safaricom’s Mohit Mediratta demonstrated his talent and resilience. After a strong 67 in the opening round, he faced challenges with a 74 in round two but recovered admirably with rounds of 71 and 68. Mediratta’s performance highlights the growing influence of corporate-supported golfers in the national scene.

Both finishing at 7-under-par 281, Gaita Rodell from Uganda and a member of PGK, and John Karichu, Limuru’s own, rounded out the top five, showcasing depth in the field. Rodell overcame a slow start by improving steadily through the tournament, while Karichu maintained consistent scoring reflective of his experience and composure under pressure.
