HOW KAMENE CLINCHED OVERALL VICTORY AT LEGENDARY GOLF TOURNAMENT IN RUIRU

Catherine Kamene is feted after winning in Ruiru.

Catherine Kamene (HCP 25) produced a superb round to claim the overall winner’s trophy at the weekend’s Legendary Golf Tourney, carding an impressive 41 points to top a competitive field of 281 golfers staged at Ruiru Sports Club. Her steady play across the course gave her a narrow edge over the men’s champion John Njenga (HCP 14), who returned 40 points, and the ladies’ winner, Bethanie Mukanga (HCP 34), who finished with 38 points.

Speaking after her victory, Kamene said the result was a reward for consistency and composure on the course. “It was one of those days where everything just came together. My short game held up well, and I stayed focused throughout the round. I’m honored to emerge the overall winner in such a strong field,” she said.

In the men’s category, Njenga led the charge with his 40 points, while John Gicheru (HCP 18) was runner-up on 39 points. For the ladies, Mukanga edged past Petty Kigwe (HCP 19), who settled for second with 37 points.

The juniors also impressed, with Lucy Wangari (HCP 23) delivering a fine performance of 39 points to secure the junior winner’s title. Among sponsors, Legendary Edmund Ndegwa (HCP 32) posted 36 points, while Phane Kerubo (HCP 26) took the corporate sponsor prize with 35 points.

Other standout performers included Michael Thiga (HCP 16), who topped the guest category with 39 points, and Simon Mutinia (HCP 32), who reigned in Division Two with 38 points. The best nine scores went to Mogondu Nicholas (HCP 25), who posted 23 points on the first nine, and James Kibogo (HCP 11), who mirrored that with 23 points on the second nine.

BUNDI, GITHUI SHINE AT NCBA GOLF SERIES NANYUKI LEG AS SIX GOLFERS QUALIFY FOR GRAND FINALE

NCBA Bank Kenya MD James Gossip tees off at the Nanyuki Sports Club during the club’s leg of the NCBA Golf Series

Six golfers sealed their places at the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale after stellar performances at the Nanyuki Sports Club qualifier held yesterday at the 9-hole course. Click this link https://a.meridianbet.ke/c/C7pYjz to start gaming and stand a chance of winning big with Meridianbet.

The coveted slots went to Overall Gross Winners Cyprian Bundi and Purity Githui, alongside Division 1 winner Gabriel Miungi, Division 2 winner Mugiiira Muthuri, Division 3 winner Gatheru Wachira, and Junior winner Robin Bebbington (Jnr). All six will now represent Nanyuki at the season-ending finale set for November 28 at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Bundi delivered a remarkable round, carding 70 gross to claim the Men’s Gross Winner title, while Githui impressed with a score of 87 gross to take home the Lady Gross Winner honors.

In the nett categories, Gabriel Miungi claimed the Division One (Handicap 0–12) title with 36 points, edging out stiff competition, while Mugiiira Muthuri topped Division Two (Handicap 13–24) with 41 points. Jennifer Kariuki secured the Ladies’ Division II crown with 27 points.

The Division III (Handicap 25+) category saw a tight contest, with Henry Kamotho carding 35 points to secure the win.

In the junior ranks, Robin Bebbington impressed with 27 points, while Kenneth Sawe was named Guest Winner on 36 points. Jesse Masiga emerged as Staff Winner with 21 points.

Meanwhile, Mercy Wanjira won the Longest Drive for Ladies, while Robin Bebbington claimed the Men’s Longest Drive. Jennifer Kariuki and Umraj Sehmi triumphed in the Nearest to Pin contests for Ladies and Men, respectively.

Speaking after the tournament, Nanyuki Sports Club Chairman Joseph Mwangi lauded the event’s success: “We are delighted with how today’s leg unfolded. The turnout, the competition, and the spirit of the game all show how much this series means to our golfers. We are proud to host this qualifier and grateful to NCBA for their continued support of golf at this level. For our winners, this is just the beginning, and we look forward to seeing them represent Nanyuki strongly at the Grand Finale.”

The Nanyuki leg comes on the back of a series of customer engagements across the Central region, reinforcing NCBA’s drive to bring people together through sport. This was the tenth series engagement, underscoring the bank’s commitment and long-term investment in both the Nanyuki Sports Club and the wider community in the region.

With the Nanyuki leg concluded, attention now shifts to Kericho Golf Club next weekend, where golfers will continue their quest to qualify for the season-ending finale at Muthaiga.
