Reigning champions, Kenya had a false start on the first day of Africa Zone VI Championships at the par 71 Nyali Golf Club, finishing the first day behind rivals South Africa to take up the runners up slot on half a point difference at the single rounds. Favourites South Africa currently leads the board on seven points while Kenya is hot on their heels on 6.5 points. Kenya won all the matches apart from Vet Lab’s Boniface Simwa who lost 1-2 to Namibia’s Glende Kaal and James Karanja halved aganst Zambia’s A. Sinfukwe. The South Africans also won most of their matches and only lost one match to Namibia 3-4. Tanzania was third on 4.5 points, while Namibia and Malawi tied on 4 points. Zimbabwe was fifth on 3.5 points, Mozambique and Swaziland had 3 points each to share the sixth position. NGIGE MAKES IT TWO OUT OF THREE IN KCB TOUR

WINNER'S SWING: Thika's Simon Ngige follows his tee shot during the KCB Tour Nyanza leg at the weekend.

Thika’s Simon Ngige made it two out of three with a deserved win at the KCB East Africa Golf Tour third leg held at the nine-hole Nyanza golf club on four over par 284 after beating veteran Jacob Okello in a play off.

On the final day, he started poorly with a bogey on the par five first hole, dropped another shot on the par four fourth hole, but recovered with a birdie on the next hole, a par five fifth and picked another shot on the par three eighth hole.

In the second nine, Ngige started with bogeys on the par five 10th hole, par four 11th and par four 12th. He dropped another shot on the par three 16th hole to end the nine on 35.

“The greens were bumpy, but I’m happy with the win. I’m now focused on the forth coming 4th leg that would be in Arusha Golf Club Tanzania between May 11 and 15,” said Ngige who pocketed Sh110, 000 for the feat.

Ngige and Okello had tied on four over on the final day forcing into a play off on the par five, 550 yards hole one where Ngige hit a birdie to emerge the winner and Okello a managed a par.

Royal’s Chahan Thethy was third on six over par 286 having collected and Dismas Indiza of Mumias finished fourth seven over par 287.

Okello earned Sh90, 000, while Thethy took home Sh83, 000 and Indiza pocketed Sh58, 000. canada goose sale canada goose sale
