The Tusker Malt Golf Carnival wraps up its 2011 calendar at the 18-hole par-71 Limuru Country Club with a huge field of 200 golfers expected to participate in the seventh leg.

Club Captain Lucas Maranga says despite the heavy rains that have been experienced recently, the course is in perfect condition. “The rain helped rejuvenate the course and this combined with the sunny spells we are currently experiencing makes it quite a spectacular sight,

He adds that there have been improvements to the course structure that will spice up the golfing experience. “We have increased our greens to four and they are well maintained. Golfers can expect an exciting time come Saturday,” says Maranga.

Morning action is expected to start at 7.48am owing to the huge field of players, with a maximum of about 80 golfers expected to tee off. The afternoon tee off begins at half past eleven to end at some minutes to 4pm. “Limuru Country Club attracts many golfers and if we hope to finish in good time, we must start early, “says Maranga.

Captain Maranga says due to the large number of players it is almost impossible to predict which way the game will go.

In the absence of top contenders anticipated like the Kenya national golf team Captain, Francis Kimani as well as James Karanja who just recently won the Kenya Amateur Golfers tournament held at Limuru Country Club, Maranga says Saturday’s tournament will be anyone’s game.

“Low handicappers are generally known to carry the day. However, there have been surprise winners from the high handicappers over the years, “says Maranga. “There are no favorites really. Majority of the players are from Limuru and they are in top shape. I expect a very interesting tournament!” adds Maranga.

The carnival enters its 2012 calendar with Muthaiga Golf Club scheduled to host the opening tournament on January 21.. The carnival has so far been to the Kenya Railway Golf Club, Machakos, Njoro, Kiambu, Eldoret and Nyanza Golf Clubs in part of the regional tour aimed at fostering friendship and bonding.

The challenge has attracted many amateur golfers coming out to take part in the tournaments that incorporated the new format of play The Four Ball Better Ball, registering impressive scores. The team that has so far posted the highest score in the challenge is Eldoret’s former marathoner Moses Tanui and David Kimutai with 49 points.

The carnival is scheduled to visit 30 golf clubs and engage some 10, 000 golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda in a regional tour aimed at promoting bonding and friendship, the brand value of Tusker Malt. air max 97 air max 97
