The 2011/2012 Safaricom Business Golf challenge twelfth qualifying round moves to the nine hole course with 18 tees and 10 greens, Railways Golf Club in Nairobi this weekend.

Just 1/2km from the city centre with capital’s businesses overlooking the course, close to over 100 golfers will be battling it out for the series top two positions to take part in a fully sponsored Grand finale at Rea Vipingo Golf resort in Mombasa on 28th April 2012.

The course is perfectly well; some greens are very fast, others medium and others pretty slow according to the clubs captain Nobert Wabwire.

“We have made the greens abit challenging since it’s a nine hole so that we get the best score. Golf is all about reading the greens and knowing the line, “added Captain Wabwire.

Playing off handicap +1, James Wangai who is also the Club’s Golf administrator is expected to pose great challenge to other golfers together with Kositany Caleb handicap 5, Anthony Mwaura also playing off 5 and Norbert Wabwire (captain) playing off 8.

Junior golfers, Robert Ndonga playing off 12 and Paul Ndonga playing off 20 are some of the best junior golfers from the club who will also be battling it out. Both are members of National Junior Golf Talent.

On the Caddies competition category, Robin Njogu playing off +2 and Kamau Njoroge’ playing off +4 are some of the players to watch in the category. cgdamen cgdamen

WAMBUGU CLINCHES SAFARICOM BUSINESS CHALLENGE IN MUTHAIGA

Muthaiga’s James Wambugu beat a large field of seasoned golfers to top the eleventh qualifying round of 2011/2012 Safaricom Business golf challenge at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 15, the elite golfer who has played golf for 2 years now, set off his first tee shot, par 4-373 yards down slope to the green with a shot dropped for a bogey. He dropped two shots on the uphill par 3,189 yards second hole,a bogey on third, par 4,dropped a shot on par 5,fourth hole,pa on par 3 fifth, dropped two shots each on par 4 sixth hole and par 5 seventh hole.

James shot a par on par 4 stroke index 1 eighth hole but dropped a shot on ninth par 4 for an 18 on front nine.

The Long hitting James,collected two pars on par 5 and par 3 tenth and eleventh holes respectively.He dropped a shot on par 4 twelvth but recovered with a two club on thirteenth hole. He dropped two shots on fifteenth shooting pars on the rest of the holes to record an inward 23 for a total of 41 stable ford points.

‘It was not an easy day for me but i always ensured all my shots are on the fairway and that’s how I won. I did not come to win but I had come to play intelligent golf,’ said James after receiving a fully paid ticket for the grand finale of the series scheduled for April this year at Rea Vipingo Ridge in Mombasa from Safaricom Enterprise Business Unit General Manager Sylvia Mulinge.

Playing off handicap 15 was Henry Kinyua who shot the second best for the day to also win a fully sponsored ticket for the finals at Rea Vipingo. Henry dropped two shots each on first and second holes,shot pars on 3rd,5th and 9th holes,dropped a shot on 5th and 8th with a blank on seventh hole for an outward 21 points.

On the back nine,Henry got a two club on hole 16 and a par on fifteenth hole.He scratched on tenth hole,collected bogeys on the rest of the holes for an inward 18 for a total of 39 stableford points.

Previously, Safaricom had sponsored the Clubs caddies competititon which was won by Paul Mbatia playing off handicap 5.He won a blackberry phone and airtime worth Ksh.5,000. James Kimeria from home club playing off handicap 28 came in third with 37 stableford points winning a Hp Laptop courtesy of Safaricom Business.

Andrew Okeyo playing off handicap 12 came in fourth overall hitting 37 points.Longest drive ladies prize went to Agnes Wanjiru playing off handicap 29 and for men went to a Guest Tom Simba playing off handicap 21.

Nearest to the pin prize went to Patrick Obath while staff winner prize went to Andrew Ngechu.

All the winners in different Categories received Mobile phones, Airtimes,Laptops and goods worth courtesy of Safaricom Business.
