TRY ME: Golf Park's David Opati follow's his tee shot during a past GOTY event. He has vowed to bounce back during the Limuru Open this weekend.

He could have not been able to pick any point in the last two Golfer of the year (GOTY) events but Golf Park’s David Opati who currently enjoys a slim lead at the top of Goty standings has vowed to bounce back and show his true colours at this week’s Limuru Open, to consolidate his lead at the top.

At the moment, Opati remains very vulnerable as he enjoys less than a point’s advantage and any slip-ups would put him into problems, but after his practice round yesterday he said he was not in the mood of any slip-ups.

“I am not under any pressure. A matchplay competition is always anyone’s game and even Tiger Woods is always beaten in matchplays. There are still 10 tournaments to go in the series and I can say my season is starting now and I am going to prove my doubters wrong,” said Opati.

He added: “I’m like Luke Donald who doesn’t win a lot events but stays at the top of the game. Last year I was third at the Limuru Open, but I had just returned from an ankle injury and this year is my time.”

Opati who currently plays off handicap +3, will however, receive a run for his money from Matchplay champions Tony Omuli, Joseph Karanja Waweru as well as home players Francis Kimani and Paul Muchangi. pulsera pandora pulsera pandora

K.Githae and M.Nderi moving to the next hole during the Leisure Lodge round of the Dasani Golf Gala

By JAMES WAINDI

After a two week sojourn on the Kenyan coast, with qualifying rounds at the Nyali Golf Club and the Leisure Lodge Resort, the 2012 Dasani Golf Gala returns to the capital, Nairobi, for the eighth qualifying round at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Saturday 14 July 2012.Slightly over 200 golfers will be in contention for the eight qualifying slots to the Grand Finale on Saturday 29 September at the Karen Golf and Country Club available from this round.
Darshan Mistry, the Club Captain said, “Royal Nairobi Golf Club looks forward to hosting the Dasani Golf Gala this weekend. Despite the cold weather, the course is in good conditions. The fairways are quite harsh and the roughs tough but playable. The greens are holding up well and playing reasonably quick.”
“Generally the course is playing fair and the opportunity for a good score is in reach for all handicaps. We havesix of our juniors playing. Masters Mogere and Kimosop showing good form during the last weekend junior open. Thank you Dasani and good luck to all as they fight for two slots in the grand finale,” he added.
It is worth noting that this qualifying round has six juniors playing, and they could just as well spring a surprise, and there is sufficient reason to back this up.Judging by the results from the last two qualifiers, which produced lady qualifiers from Nyali and also saw an all caddies team book their Grand Finale berth during last weekend’s qualifier at Leisure Lodge, we should brace ourselves for more intriguing results from Royal as the Grand Finale, with its Grand Prize, an all expenses paid tour for the winning team to witness the final of the European Tour’s “Race to Dubai” looms on the horizon.
This is good enough motivation for a great qualifying round at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
