Nelson Simwa is keen to emulate his elder brother Boniface by steering the Kenyan team to victory at the Africa Zone VI Golf tournament to be held at the Windhoek Golf Club in Namibia next week.

Simwa who left with the rest of the national team players today, was full of confidence and urged Kenyans to believe in the team, noting that they were capable of winning the title just like they won the East Africa Challenge last year when nobody knew they would.

“I really want to emulate my elder brother Boniface Simwa who has now turned professional, as he was part of the team that won the Zone VI title in Botswana in 2010,” said Simwa who currently plays off handicap +2.

He added: “My golf is currently very good despite my position in the Goty standings. Zone VI is a matchplay competition and not strokeplay and I can beat anyone, so the team spirit is high and we wre confident of returning the title home.”

Vet Lab’s Mathew Omondi who plays off +3 will captain the team which also comprises of Goty leader John Karichu, Justus Madoya, Abdulahi Galgao, William Odera, Tony Omuli, John Mburu and Mohit Mediratta.

“We practiced under the tutelage of coach Charles Farrar at Golf Park and swings were good. At the East African Challenge we had five juniors and we won, this time we have two, we are even stronger,” Simwa said.

The Kenyan players are expected to play the Namibia Open on Saturday and Sunday to feel the course before the tournament proper begins. nike huarache pas cher nike huarache pas cher

Dismas Indiza is heartbeat away from winning the third round of the KCB East African Tour following brilliant display at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club.
Oozing confidence from his opening shot, Indiza maintained his lead into the second day but went to bed knowing full well that a slip up in today’s round could cost him the KSH.110, 000 prize money at stake for the winner.
Yesterday, the Mumias man maintained his dogged campaign in search of lakeside glory with an impressive round of 4 under par 66 for a total of 10 under par 130. On his way up, Indiza sunk four birdies in the first nine and three in the second nine. He parred four holes in the first nine and five in the second nine.
The only time he erred disgustingly was in the par 3 hole 4 where he picked up a double bogey.
But Indiza was contented with his performance over the last two rounds admitting that the course has been kind to him.
“The course played really well today (yesterday).  I am now hoping that luck is on my side tomorrow (today) and nothing unexpected happens- so fingers crossed,” said Indiza.
Simon Ngige of Thika Sports Club was lying second with 5 under par 135 at the end of Day Two; five shots below the leaders score.
Boniface Simwa was the biggest mover in day two’s play after romping from outside top 10 to third place after playing four under yesterday.
Riz Charania is lying 4th with two under.
Charania, who is also the chairman of the Professionals Golfers of Kenya (PGK), candidly admitted that Indiza is almost at home and that there is no realistic chance of catching him today.
“I played really well today (yesterday) and managed a round of two under. I believe I hit the ball better than I did in the previous round but it looks like Indiza has run away with it,” said  Riz.
Even as Indiza appeared to soar on the second day, Ngige refused to let go of his intended home-stretch fight with Indiza.
“Well, we’ll see how Indiza approaches it tomorrow. But I believe that the game of golf is won on the last hole. I’m lagging with five shots and I really have to give my best,” said Ngige.
The third and last round resumes at 7.30am.
Over 20 pros played in the first two rounds but yesterday’s play saw a +7 cut reduce the field to 16 players.
