KARANJA SOARS HIGH TO WIN MRM GOLF DAY IN NYAHURURU

Home player, Joseph Karanja hit a birdie on par five and his ball landed close to the pin to emerge winner of Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) golf tournament held in Nyahururu.

He scored identical 20 points on first nine and second nine for 40 points to beat John Gatuma on count back.

Simon Muturi on 39 points was the second runners up after beating 4NTE matatu sacco chairman, Wilfred Kimotho on count back. Simon Ngugi was fourth with 37 points.

The winner did not have it smooth as he admitted playing badly on hole 17 in par three of the nine-hole high altitude course of the Nyahururu Golf Club on Saturday.

In the last hole, I played a very poor shot that saw my ball land on a small rump, but I recovered after the ball landed almost next to the pin in my fourth stroke thus earning me a bye,” Karanja said after being awarded top prize – a golfer’s bag for clubs, by MRM head of marketing Harry Njagi.

Impressed by the large turnout of 87 golfers, Njagi announced MRM will sponsor the event next year.

Nancy Kimemia won the ladies’ category with 39 points. Ladies’ runners up was Mercy Mburu with 31 points.

Sammy Wambugu won the prize for best man player in the first nine with 20 points.

Men and ladies prize for the longest drives went to youthful player Luther Kamau and Esther Karuga.

A new entrance into game of golf, Mark Kamande was awarded for his effort by scooping the unpopular “piga mingi” prize. He scored a total of 17 points. nike air max 1 nike air max 1

KENYA TEAM VOW TO CONQUER AFRICA AT AAGTC IN ZIMBABWE AS THEY RECEIVE NATIONAL FLAG

Kenya National Golf Team to the All Africa Golf Team Championship today received the national flag from the Sports, Culture and Arts Principal Secretary, Ambassador. Peter Kaberia before their departure to the continental show piece.

The team comprising of Alfred Nandwa – Railway Golf Club , Edwin Mudanyi- Vetlab Sports Club, John Karichu -Limuru Country Club and Mutahi Kibugu (junior)- Muthaiga Golf Club, was accompanied by Kenya Golf Union chairman, Richard Wanjalla and the national team coach John Patrick Van Liefland.

KGU chairman Wanjalla exuded confidence with the team selected for the team championships to be held at the Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from October 8th – 14th noting that this year alone, the national team had won Victoria Cup Trophy held in Uganda and also East Africa Challenge held in Tanzania.

One of the challenge that we have is that we lack exposure compared to other countries like South Africa who are always playing in different countries and continents” said junior golfer Mutahi Kubugu who is part of the team.

The PS noted that the ministry is working on establishing Golf Academies in the Country and will work closely with the Union.

The ministry will facilitate Airfare, Allowances and Insurance for the National Golf team travelling to Zimbabwe,” said Kaberia.

Wanjalla thanked the PS for meeting the team as well as supporting the Union ahead of the continental assignment.

We do believed that this is a great team and we are optimistic to come back with the trophy,” said Wanjalla.
