SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge, from the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 May 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

Formerly known as the Colonial National Invitational, the Charles Schwab Challenge was first held in 1946 and is one of five invitational tournaments on the PGA Tour. It honours the history of golf by using an official Scottish tartan plaid jacket for its champions and top committee chairmen.

Another tradition is the ‘Wall of Champions’ on the first tee, engraved with the name and score of each champion dating back to 1946, plus the 1975 Tournament Players Championship, 1941 U.S. Open, and 1991 U.S. Women’s Open.

Last year’s edition of the Charles Schwab Challenge was won by American Jason Kokrak, who shot 266 (-14) to end two strokes clear of Jordan Spieth. He will be back at Colonial this coming weekend to try and defend his title.

Winning the Charles Schwab Challenge was a career highlight for me and I will be honoured to return to the Colonial Country Club to try and successfully defend my title,” said Kokrak.

Spieth will also be back and looking to keep up both his fine record at this tournament (he was champion in 2016 and has been a runner-up finisher three times), as well as his outstanding recent form, having taken victory at the RBC Heritage in April.

“I felt in a good place. Just needed to give myself a chance,” Spieth said after his victory. “It feels amazing.”

Challenging Kokrak and Spieth will be a star-studded field, including the likes of Cameron Davis, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Max Homa, K.H. Lee, Collin Morikawa, Carlos Ortiz, Ian Poulter and Bubba Watson.

Watson recently revealed why he split with long-time caddie Ted Scott: “I have no regrets, and I don’t think he does either,” Watson explained. “[Scott] has made more money now without me. He needed ten more years. I haven’t told anybody, but I had some struggles this offseason. Wrote a book about some struggles. My wrist, I had a wrist injury all last year. Had some PRP.

So I called him and told him. I said, look, man, I’m 43 years old. I don’t know what I’m going to do. My wrist is killing me. He is like he needs ten more years, and I gave him — I felt like a nice retirement package when we split up, but we split up mutually.”

The Colonial Country Club features a par 70, 7,209-yard course. The purse for the Charles Schwab Challenge is $8.4million.

SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to watching all the action from the second Major of the year, the PGA Championship, from the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahomo from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 May 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The PGA Championship was first established in 1916 and was formerly played in mid-August on the third weekend before the United States’ Labor Day weekend, serving as the fourth and final men’s major of the golf season. Since 2019, the tournament has been played in May on the weekend before Memorial Day, as the season’s second major following the Masters Tournament in April.

The reigning champion is American Phil Mickelson, who won the tournament for a second time in 2021 when he shot 282 (-6) to take the title by two strokes ahead of compatriot Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen in South Carolina.

Mickelson is expected to be present at Southern Hills to defend his title, while long-time rival Tiger Woods may also participate. Woods, who nearly lost his right leg in a single-car accident in Los Angeles early last year, returned to competition at the Masters Tournament at Augusta last month.

He started strongly, but faded fast, with his limp becoming ever more pronounced. “I don’t quite have the endurance that I would like to have had,” Woods said at the Masters, “but as of a few weeks ago, didn’t even know if I was going to play in this event.

“To go from that to here,” he continued, “we’re excited about the prospects of the future, about training, about getting into that gym and doing some other stuff to get my leg stronger, which we haven’t been able to do because it needed more time to heal. I think it needs a couple more days to heal after this, but we’ll get back after it, and we’ll get into it.”

One of the rookies to watch at the PGA Championship will be Jesse Mueller. The Arizona State University product and golf director at the Grand Canyon University course won the PGA Professional Championship last month – with his wife as his caddie – and earned qualification for this weekend’s major tournament.

“Some of the pressure’s off. It’s not my livelihood to play, so it’s more of a bonus,” he said. “I’m still working on it, practising, but I might be a better player now than I was when I was playing full-time.”

His wife Jessie added, “It’s been a roller-coaster, for sure. But he’s a phenomenal player, and I know that. The key was just to keep things going and have his game working at the right times, which he did this week. I’m really, really proud of him.”

The field for the PGA Championship will also feature the likes of Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, John Rahm, Jordan Spieth and the winner of last month’s Masters Tournament, Scottie Scheffler.

The Southern Hills Country Club features a par 71, 7,481-yard course.
