SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s  John Deere Classic from the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois from Thursday 30 June to Sunday 3 July 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The tournament began as the Quad Cities Open in 1971 and was a ‘satellite event’ on the PGA Tour. It became an official tour event in 1972 and title sponsors have included Miller Brewing Company (1982–85), Hardee’s (1986–94) and John Deere (since 1999).

The John Deere Classic has also been famous for granting an exemption to teenage female player Michelle Wie in 2005 and 2006, as well as the 2013 edition seeing Jordan Spieth, two weeks shy of his 20th birthday, become the first teenager to win on the PGA Tour since 1931.

The 2021 edition of the tournament saw Lucas Glover claim victory thanks to a total of 265 (-19), to end two strokes clear of co-runners-up Ryan Moore and Kevin Na. It was Glover’s first tournament win in a decade and the 42-year-old is looking forward to defending his title.

It is the community, it is the Quad Cities, it is the special place it has in everybody’s heart and mind, and it’s just the Classic around here which is so cool,” said Glover.

To see that turn out last year in that rain, that mess and nasty day… you know golf is an outdoor sport but it doesn’t mean people still want to watch it when it’s like that. But I don’t think anybody left and it just speaks volumes for how much the community embraces the event.”

The field will also include players on ‘sponsors exemption’, including Patrick Flavin, Chris Gotterup and Quinn Riley – this tradition has in the past benefited players which are household names today, such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Spieth, Jason Day, Zach Johnson and Patrick Reed, amongst others.

Starting some 20 years ago, the John Deere Classic adopted a philosophy that we would provide up-and-coming young players with the opportunity to prove themselves against the best in the world and to give our loyal fans a chance to get a look at them early in their careers,” said tournament executive director Clair Peterson.

The TPC Deere Run features a par 71, 7,257-yard course. The purse for the John Deere Classic is $7.1million.
