By DANIELLA APIYO
Junior golfer Mathew Wahome had a horrendous round today that saw him finish the second day of this year’s Barclays Kenya Open Golf Championships on five over for a total of two over par 146 on a day that only three local players made the cut at the  par 72 Karen Golf and Country Club.

Wahome who started the day as hot favourite to make the cut after finishing the first round tied eighth on three under par 69 fumbled, four putting the par 4 hole eight to kiss the European Challenge Tour event goodbye with a gross total of 2 over par 148 and a late birdie on hole 18 was too little too late to save his day as the cut was projected at level par.

Local hero Dismas Indiza, Bryan Njoroge and Simon Ngige are the only locals who made the cut.

Indiza, who shot an impressive round of 2 under par 70 in round two was spurred on by spectators who trailed him through the last hole.

“Today (yesterday) the fairways were dry and dusty and at some point I was getting frustrated with the two bogeys. However, I the spectators who were following continued urging me on. After making the cut I now want to focus on my play in order to finish the event in a respectable money bracket position,” said Indiza. Indiza shot 5 birdies on holes 5,6,8,9 and 18 but drpped three shots on holes 4, 16, and 17. Bryan Njoroge made into the money bracket with 2 under par 142 whislt Simon Ngige of Thika Sports Club made the cut with 1 under par 143 gross.

A total of 19 Kenyans including Greg Snow, Jacob Okello and David Wakhu failed to make cuts with quite a big chunk of the locals shooting very high scores.
