Fourteen-year-old Mutahi Kibugu is this year’s winner of the Kenya Junior Strokeplay Championships.

The handicap five Muthaiga junior posted an impressive total of 303 gross ((74, 76, 77, 76) to convincingly win the four rounds competition at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club.

Nyali’s Agil Ishaq playing off handicap four was second on 310 gross (78, 74, 82, 76), while Tahir Mohammed also of Nyali was third on 314 gross (80, 79, 75, 80) and Adel Balala was fifth on 322 gross (77, 83, 76, 86).

Following the feat, Kibugu will now represent Kenya at the coveted British Open Championship scheduled for early next year. He was elated with the win and thanked the sponsors for giving future golfers a chance to showcase their talent and skills and promised to win his category during the British Open.

“I am happy to have emerged the winner today (yesterday) and would like the thank the sponsors Crown Paints for giving young Kenyan golfers a chance to exhibit their brilliant talents and skills. Rest assured that I won’t be going for holiday at the British Open. I will be going for the title in my categroy,”said Kibugu.

Anthony Gitonga emerged the overall nett winner on 270 nett (65, 71, 69, 65).

The occasion was graced by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman Anthony Muhoro who urged young people to turn up in large numbers and learn about the sport which will help in building future world professional golfers.

He further noted that parents should encourage their daughters to join golf and the country needs more of them to represent Kenya regionally and internationally.

“Parents should encourage and mentor their children into joining the sport as they will do Kenya proud in future and would like to urge them to bring out their daughters to join to see us have more great professionals in a near future,” Said Muhoro.

The winners received different accolades in the respective categories of participation in event that attracted more than 40 golfers across the country. nike air max womens nike air max womens
