The fourth edition of the Kenya Airways Golf Safari tees off tomorrow at the Railway Club in a rejigged format that will see the tournament revolve across the globe before coming back to Kenya for a grand finale. Winners in every local round of the series fly away with a return ticket to one of the destinations that Kenya Airways flies to within Africa.

The new format will have 28 legs played across Africa and Asia with all the winners assembling in Nairobi in March 2015 for the grand finale. The grand finale winner will be crowned KQ Golf Safari Champion in addition to a golf holiday for two to watch the British Open at the Old Course St. Andrews in July 2015.

The 2014/2015 format includes five professional series that will run alongside the amateur play. Out of the 28 legs, 15 will be held in different golf courses in Kenya. With the opening leg starting at Railways Golf Club today, Limuru, Windsor, Nyeri, Nyali, Eldoret, Nyanza, Thika, Vet Lab, Kiambu, Nakuru, Muthaiga, Sigona, Karen and Royal Golf clubs will host the remaining local 14 legs.

Internationally, Tema Golf Club of Ghana, Royal Harare of Zimbabwe, Shek O Golf club in Hong Kong, Dragon lake of Guangzhou, Ikoyi in Lagos, Gymkhana of Tanzania, IBB in Lagos, Uganda Golf Club, Riverdale in Thailand and reef Golf Club of Seychelles will host the tournament.

During the Golf Safari launch Kenya Airways Chief Executive Mbuvi Ngunze also donated KSH 1.5 million to Kenya Golf Union to support golf development in the country. KGU Chairman Peter Warui challenged professional golfers to spring to the opportunity and maximize the exposure it accords in preparation for next year’s Kenya open Golf Tournament. “The timing and motivation of this Golf Safari is convenient especially to pro golfers as it spreads from today till March.
