National ladies golf team captain Jane Njoroge is optimistic they will retain the All Africa Challenge Trophy when they travel to Gaborone, Botswana to defend the title on Sunday.

Njoroge a member of the Muthaiga Golf Club was part of last year’s team that won the title in Zambia said she was in a better form than last year and could only hope for the best. She will be in the team with youngster Naomi Wafula of Golf Park who is playing off handicap five and United Kingdom’s based Bavi Shah.

“We have an equally strong team like last year’s and we are confident we will retain the title. All of us have been playing good golf of late and I hope we can carry the same form to the event next week,” said Njoroge who plays off handicap 6.

The team received the national flag from Sports Minister Paul Otuoma yesterday and they are expected to leave the country on Sunday for the 54-Hole strokeplay event that will run from June 5 to 7 at the Gaborone Golf Course.

“It gives me great pleasure to officially hand over the national flag to the Kenya Ladies National Golf team who will travel to Gaborone, Botswana for the All Africa Challenge Trophy next week. I take cognizance of the best junior golfer in the country, Naomi Wafula who has represented Kenya in various countries and won her matches,” said Otuoma.

Otuoma added: “As a ministry, we would like to recognize her efforts and wish her all the best as she proceeds to England from Botswana to compete in the World Junior Open Golf Championship to be held on July 16, 2012.”

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Chairperson Anne Chubi said the tournament was expected to attract a total of 35 countries but so far only 25 have confirmed. air max mujer air max mujer
