KTN’S JB MWANGI WINS AIRTEL MEDIA GOLF CHALLENGE THIRD LEG AT GOLF PARK

A late birdie on the 12th and three subsequent pars on the 8th and 16th and 18th catapulted JB Mwangi to the his maiden win of the Airtel media golf challenge held at the Golf park on Saturday.
JB, who bogeyed the first hole and dropped a shot in the second, was on form to collect points on each hole thereafter culminating with a total of 39 stableford points three points ahead of second placed Tony Kwalanda from K24.
JB attributed his win to practice and the right frame of mind. “It was great to win, I am very proud today as it confirms that practice makes it perfect, the greens were tricky but all I can say is that I very happy with my performance” he said.
Long hitting Kwalanda fired 17 points on the first nine and 19 on the second nine, having dropped shots on the 5th and 14th, owing to what he said was “strong gusts of wind from the left”.
The ladies prize went to Josphine Ngumba from the people daily.
Others who received top honours include Mwaura Kimani from the East African, with 34 points, Kipchillat Kimaru from the presidential press services. The staff prize went to Airtel’s Tom Indimuli while Lee Mwandiki and Robert Ndwiga received prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin respectively.
Airtel also announced that it would soon be re-launching its money transfer service Zap to Airtel money according Sieka Gatabaki, the head of Airtel’s head of money transfer services. Without divulging a lot of details, he hinted that the new service is set to revolutionalize money transfer services in the country.
Over 30 journalists were battling it out for the prestigious red jacket to be awarded to the top performer in December, in a points based format where the winner bags 10 precious points in each tournament.
Tournament organizers Thinktank marketing said the next tournament will be held at the end of June when the standings of the players will also be announced
