Kenya’s top amateur golfer Boniface Simwa has turned professional and is setting his eyes on the prestigious Sunshine Tour championships before moving to the European Tour.

He announced this on Saturday while in Mombasa saying that he had decided to turn professional based on his current form.

“I believe I have done a lot for the country in my years as an amateur golfer and now my ambition is to play in the European tour to fulfill my dream,” said Simwa.

Simwa was the African number two Amateur golfer in 2009, where he played his best of 5 under par 72 holes under pressure from South Africans.

The 28 years old golfer who started playing golf in Eldoret at the age of 15 years said that he was now focused at playing in the South African 2011 Sunshine Tour events.

This is the 12th season of professional golf tournaments since the South African based Sunshine tour was relaunched in 2000, and the fifth since the tour switched a calendar based season in 2007 and represents the highest level of competition for male professional golfers in the region.

The tour is based predominantly in South Africa with other events being held in neighboring countries like Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Zambia and   Namibia.

The tournament which has been running since January and ends in December, has much higher prize funds which attracts stronger fields and are the only tournaments on the tour to carry world ranking points with some points co-sanctioned with the European Tour.

Simwa pointed out that the Country has many talented golfers and that the local federation should invest in junior golf foundations to tap the talent at a younger age.

The Vet Lab golfer, who was also a member of the national golf team, said Kenya Golf Union (KGU) should also scout for talents from caddy golfers who are able to hold pressure in any event.

Meanwhile at Nyali golf and Country club Handicap 6 Alan Dainty scored a two under par 69 gross to emerge the winner in the “ A” division of the May-011 Mug and Medal tournament held at the par 71 club course on Saturday.

Handicap 10 Shabbir Nazerali short a level par 71 gross to take the runners up slot on count back after tying on the same points with handicap 8 James Mureu who was placed third.

The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cutting Edge Communications services sponsored the one 18 holes tournament that attracted 100 golfers. air max damen air max damen
