SuperSport viewers on DStv can see all the action from the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open from the TPC at Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 October 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of an action from around the world.

Founded in 1983, this will be the 40th edition of the Shriners Children’s Open. The 2021 tournament was won by South Korea’s Im Sung-jae, who shot 260 (-24) to win by four strokes ahead of American Matthew Wolff. It was Im’s second PGA Tour tournament victory, having won the Honda Classic in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

It was very tough to get my first win but I felt like the second one was harder and harder,” Im said. “But I kept my patience. I tried to stay composed and I’m glad it came.”

This year’s Shriners Children’s Open will see Im return to defend his title against a tough field, that will feature at least three former Major champions: Jason Day (2015 PGA Championship), Gary Woodland (2019 US Open) and Stewart Cink (2009 British Open) have committed to play at this year’s event, while the likes of Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Cameron Champ, Harris English, J.T. Poston, Patrick Cantlay and Martin Laird will also be present in ‘Sin City’.

Fowler could be one to watch, with the 33-year-old having changed coach and caddy in recent times to ‘reinvent’ himself and rejuvenate his career.

I feel like I’m in a really good spot,” Fowler explained. “I’m arguably as healthy and strong as I’ve ever been. The home life couldn’t be better. The little one is great.”

Asked about his goals, he added: “Get back to having fun and being in contention. Over the last few years, I wasn’t really in a position to be in contention a whole lot. There were a couple of times, but there shouldn’t be such big gaps between having a chance to win. I want to go out and beat guys.”

The TPC at Summerlin features a 7255-yard par 71 course, and the Shriners Children’s Open has a purse of $8million.

Vet Lab Sports Club will this weekend play host to the latest leg of the 2022 NCBA Golf Series.

The event, which marks the twelfth leg of the series calendar, following the postponement of the Tanzania tournament, teed off early this year and has attracted more than 1600 amateur golfers. The golfers will swing into action early in the morning with the first group expected to tee off at 7:00 am.

The golfers will compete for slots to play at the series’ Grand Finale to be played at Muthaiga Golf Club in December. Top finishers at the final event will win an all-expenses-paid trip to South Africa’s Fancourt Country Club.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora said:

“We are delighted to be heading back to VetLab Sports Club for the fourteenth event under the 2022 NCBA Golf Series. The series has been a success so far looking at the great number of participants that continue to participate in the tournaments. We are therefore proud of the progress we have made and hope it continues throughout the rest of the year,” said Gachora.

“This tournament has provided an opportunity for golfers around the country to showcase their talents as it has also offered us the chance to interact with our clients. We are also elated to be offering the lucky golfers a chance to visit and play at the famed and iconic Fancourt Golf Course in South Africa. As we head to VetLab, therefore, we look forward to another amazing golf outing,” he added.

The event follows the eleventh leg that was played at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club where home player Lucy Kisia carded a round of 42 points to emerge the champion of Division One category, ahead of Fridah Shiroya (handicap 20) who carded 40 points to claim the runner-up position.

In the Division Two category, handicap 24 Fred Obwora’s 40 points were enough to earn him the top honors, edging out Derick Owuor (handicap 24) by a solitary point.

In the third division, Simaloi Mbeya playing off handicap 44 was the champion having carded a round of 43 points. He beat handicap 47 Kalee Maleli who posted 41 points to emerge second.
