A Kenyan sturdy contingent of 24 golfers has vowed to show their supremacy at the KCB Bank Uganda Open.
The four-day golf event tees off from July 6-9, 2011 at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala. The seventh leg of the KCB Regional tour and also the penultimate round has attracted over 38 professional golfers from the region, who will battle it out for the Kshs 1 million prize-fund.

Uganda will be represented by a strong field of 14 players in the four rounds event that will be staged at Kampala Golf Club, which is the best course in Uganda. Deogratious Akope the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) Captain will be among the players to watch in Kampala.

The promising golfer will not be a lone ranger but will be joined by Zimbambwe-based towering professional Denis Anguyo.
Other Ugandan professionals seeking the top prizes will be; Peter Sendaula, Sadi Atibu, George Olayo, Lagoro Dickson, Amos Kamya among others.
Joining the party from Kenya will be Thika’s Simon Ngige who is fresh from winning the sixth round of the KCB East African Golf Tour in Nakuru last month. Ngige has so far won round one, three and sixth in Thika, Kisumu and Nakuru respectively.Greg Snow, who has previously won the second and fifth round of the KCB Regional elite tour, has also confirmed participation in the event.
However, it will be interesting to see the kind of play Mumias Sugar’s long-hitter Dismas Ndiza will exhibit to solidify his top position in the KCB Golf tour ranking. Other notables include; left-hander Richard Ainley, Ali Kimani, Nicholas Rokoine, Jacob Okello, South Africa-based Anil Shah among others.
KCB has invested Kshs 8.7 million in the East African Golf Tour Series which has so far staged six events namely the KCB Biashara Club Invitational at the Thika Golf Club in February; the KCB Advantage Banking Challenge at the Muthaiga Golf Club in March and the KCB S&L Mortgages Classic in Nyanza Golf Club in April. Other competitions were the KCB Bank Tanzania Open at the Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club and the KCB Bank Rwanda Open at the Kigali Golf Club in May and the KCB Corporate Banking Open at the Nakuru Golf Club which took place last month.
The ultimate grand finale dubbed, KCB Classic Tour will be staged at the Nyali Golf Club, Mombasa in August 10-13, 2011 where the winner will walk away with Ksh 3 million. air max damen air max damen

FEREJ SOARS HIGH AS NIC GOLF SERIES TEES OFF IN ELDORET

Eldoret Club’s Ahmed Ferej beat a strong field of over 200 golfers to win the NIC Bank golf tournament over the weekend at Eldoret Club.

Ferej, playing off handicap 20, posted 40 stableford points to win the trophy, narrowly edging out his colleague Charles Nganga, a 25-handicap, who shot 39 points to settle for second place.

He garnered 20 points in the first nine and shot another 20 in the second nine to brilliantly scoop the title. Nganga on his part,  shot 19 and 20 in the first and second nine respectively.

“I am very impressed with my performance and I am going to work harder for the future campaigns now that Dasani Gala is scheduled for August in Eldoret,” Ferej said, adding: “I was determined to carry the day and I am happy I started off very well. I owe my win to the good putting.”

Ng’anga on his part said: “The weather was perfect for a good golfer and this gave me the morale to play well. The fairways seemed shorter.”

Eldoret Club’s Kamau Watunu, playing off handicap 13, and Tom Mutei (handicap 12) shot 36 and 35 points to settle for third and fourth places respectively. In the ladies category, Irene Pruker of Nandi Bears club shot an impressive 16 points in the first nine and 20 in the second nine to win in a total of 36 stable ford points.

She was followed by Eldoret club lady captain Linda Shah, who shot 34 points, having collected 14 and 20 points in the first and second nine respectively. Guest winner prize went to Sanche Rodie with 36 points while Neel Shah took the guest runner-up prize.

Annan Lakhani shot 21 points to win the first nine prize while the second nine went to Amar Jethro, who shot 21 points. Nearest to the pin prize went to Tom Mutei while Mir Uyao became the best marker with 36 points. NIC Bank managing director James Wainaina said they are dedicated to nurturing the golf talent in the athletic rich region.

“We want to take golf to the next level in this region and create interest among the residents of Eldoret and it’s environs. You can see that the retired athlete Moses Tanui has already joined it,” Wainaina said. Tanui, a two-time Boston marathon champion was among the golfers who took part in the event.

NIC Bank intends to use golf tournaments around the country to connect with prospective customers and promote its products with major concentration on asset financing.
